Yes! I did it!
For the last two weeks, I played mostly on korean hours. I also forced myself to play 1 - 2 hours a day. I used to play 4 hours a week or smt, that doesnt get you anywhere, whenever I finally grinded myself vs one type of harass, I totally forgot about the other one. I need a minimum hours of practice to even maintain my level.
The koreans really learned me to have my basics down. Tonight I had time on western hours (20:00 - 24:00 GMT), and man that went like a blast. Whereas on Korean hours I could barely hold my D+, now I went 5-0 including two C- people.
I also finally had ZvZ build working. I used to 3 hat ling all in at the D level, but that doesn't work anymore, lol. So then I used to dodge ZvZ. Now I 12p11e12h@exp. There's something wrong with the build, cause I want speed first and I always have too much gas early on (or not enough minerals..), I have to figure that one out still. Anyway, most of the time I win it with lings only, but I've won it a few times with muta's too. But then my lings had done the damage anyway.
ZvT I'm only trying to do 3hatmuta into lurker, 3 base defiler, 4 base ultra, standard as standard. Oh, easy on the ultras, lurkers are way better most of the time. Most of the weird early 1 base shenannigans I can cope with easily either switching to "Mech play according to Day[9]" (thank you so much for that!), or shitting out some premature, unexpected lings. Scouting is key. I tried some 2 hat muta, mainly because I wanted to train my mutalisk micro. Allthough I kinda sucked at the 2 hat muta play, it did enhance my mutamicro greatly. Many of my games went 3hat muta into loose expansion into allin on T's natural and either win it there or camp on 2 base defiler into gg. I really try standard, but I find proper defiler play so hard. I'm thinking of lurker guardian as 3/4 gas army. Not harassy-guardians, but guardians on top of lurkers, slowly mowing forward, perhaps with hydra's off the 4th gas. What can stop that?
ZvP, sometimes I lurker contain. Some times I'm just clueless. There is no standard as in ZvT. Sure there is 3hatspire5hathydra, which I fall back on. But then I just blindly macro macro macro, try not to get into the wrong battles and just mass hydra lurker ling. Actually what I just realized to day is that that is how I want my ZvP to be anyway. I have tried many times to somehow forge a sauron build. We all know Julys gif vs backho the rock or smt. I wanted to stream units in from the beginning, upgrade 3 evos and just mass and attack. Appearantly I am doing that when I am clueless.
I'm 5-0 ZvZ, 10-8 ZvP and 5-8 ZvT.
But then there's my alts combined on them (both D+): 8-5 vZ, 16-24 vP, 20-26 vT. That's the difference between koreans and nonkoreans at the D+ level.

Take a drone off gas after you start researching speed. Otherwise, like you said, you have a huge disparity between mins and gas. Can also take two off if you are going to be a bit more aggressive with lings.

I'm pretty sure it's two on gas right from the start, even before speed

Anytime you make a jump in the ranks, it's an awesome feeling. Also, good thinking on doing your best to play Koreans. Many people don't understand how much of a difference it actually can make. Not to mention, when you do play during foreigner hours again (like you did), you'll have way better practice and crush people.

I forgot to thank people, so thank you iamstr33t. If you hadn't gotten to D+, I wouldn't have found the will to go for C-. Thank you incontrol, you gave me one free lesson because I had helped your gf with some music, the tips you gave gave me priorities. And day[9] for various tips left and right, I won't be mad at you when you return to broodwar. And finally some random dude from TL who said "Whenever you practice, make sure you have a specific, well defined, measurable goal." Golden tip.
On my ZvZ build (12p11e12h), I tend to have too much gas even before I make speed (i do speed before lair, I take one off when I research speed). It makes no sence to only put 2 on gas, so I will take my gas slightly later. Like, on 200 minerals instead of 50.
Saracen, at what times do you usually play? I'd love to game some with you, I've read quite some posts of you on the strategy forum if I'm not mistaken.
