My dormitory is having a backyard 90's themed barbecue, and I've been roped into creating a playlist of music videos from the 90's. This event is mostly for 19-20 year olds, and after asking around, people seemed more interested in listening to songs from the late 90's than the earlier 90's (songs that were popular when they were in their preteens, as opposed to when they were toddlers). Actually when I asked people what they wanted to listen to, it erupted into a BSB > NSync, Britney > Christina type of argument haha. But regardless, I'd rather not have a playlist filled with just BSB and Britney, so I've tried to incorporate a variety of songs that were popular in the 90's for peoples' different tastes. So this is what I've compiled so far:
1. Weezer - Buddy Holly 2. Oasis - Wonderwall 3. Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood 4. Nirvana - Smells Like Team Spirit 5. Sugar Ray - Someday 6. Third Eye Blind - Semi Charmed Life 7. Christina Aguilera - Genie In a Bottle 8. Vengaboys - Boom Boom Boom Boom 9. The Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) 10. Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply 11. Santana - Smooth 12. Britney Spears - Hit Me Baby One More Time 13. New Radicals - You Get What You Give 14. NSync - Bye Bye Bye 15. Aqua - Dr. Jones 16. Westlife - Uptown Girl 17. LFO - Summer Girls 18. Hanson - MMMBop 19. The Offspring - Why Don't You Get a Job 20. Michael Jackson - Black or White 21. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge 22. Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy 23. BSB - Everybody
I'm still a couple songs short, and I know I've missed some good ones. For late 80's, early 90's babies, what songs were you obsessed with from your childhood/preteen years? Any suggestions of what I should add to my playlist/take off?

Oh... I think I found it. But that's purely 90's dance tracks, I'm looking for more radio type songs. Though I did take "What Is Love" from that thread... The music video for that is pretty hilarious.
BLASPHEMY! Everyone knows the 80's had the best music of all time!
Anyway, here are a few songs I can think of that I have on my playlist and are from the 90's:
Seal - Kiss From A Rose Londonbeat - I've Been Thinking About You Los Del Rio - Macarena MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise House of Pain - Jump Around Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (A Queen song is preety much obligatory at any 80's/90's party) U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy Marky Mark - Good Vibrations Blackstreet - No Diggity Scatman John - Scatman Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U Lenny Kravitz - It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over R. Kelly - Gotham City Will Smith - Gettin Jiggy Wit' It Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus (ok, admittingly, this one is from 1989) Prodigy - Out of Space Prodigy - Voodoo People
I could probably think of many more from the late 80's, but I will limit myself to this list for now.
Gotta think party with your music. Radio stuff is the best choice. Stuff that people might of hated back then would still be a good call because you know they'll know it.
the spin doctors! little miss can't be wrong or two princes, fantastic tunes Matthew good - Rico you cant go wrong with them this could be a very long list, but those are my contributions
Also, if you are going to include the Vengaboys, you should probably include "We're Going to Ibiza" as well. Also, I would recommend Ecuador and Encore Une Fois from Sash.

Spacehog - In the Meantime Fuel - Shimmer LFO - Girl on TV Fatboyslim - Praise You Incubus - Drive/Pardon Me/Stellar (certainly more, but I have Make Yourself right here and it was from 99 so I just picked the singles I know were popular around then) Mandy Moore - Candy/Crush/I Wanna Be With You Goo Goo Dolls - Iris/Name/Slide Republica - Ready to Go
That's all I got without putting in too much effort.
Also "Boom Boom Boom" by The Outthere Brothers > "Boom Boom Boom Boom" by the Venga Boys + Show Spoiler +
And how the following songs are not on your list is beyond me. (to name but a few) + Show Spoiler +

So glad someone mentioned Scat Man John
Also sorry for the lack of "radio type songs" but these songs are awesome. Oh and the Doggystyle album of course. Perhaps I have a different sort of barbeque in mind :D
Sigur Rós - Ny Batteri Radiohead - Karma Police Massive Attack - Angel Godspeed You! Black Emperor - The Dead Flag Blues My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow Mogwai - Mogwai Fear Satan
i just watched an old Beverly Hills episode where Brenda and Kelly were exercising in tight outfits with "Snap - Rhythm is a Dancer" in the background.....divine.
(that song was voted #1 song of the decade in some polls)

I can't believe how he didn't include Scatman, i grew up listening to many of his songs and i absolutely love his music. R.I.P
Mambo #5 Basically anything from No Way Out + any Nas album +
+
+ California Love + Getting jiggy wit it + Miami
Basically, you want the best hiphop and pop stuff for a party. Foo Fighters or something like Mama Said Knock You Out are obviously good, but they're not party music. 3rd Eye Blind (who suck now, btw,) Sugar Ray, BSB, Nsync type stuff is good. Maybe Savage Garden, depending on how girly the scene is.
WTF? Seriously? The Pumpkins might be shit right now, but back in the 90s they put out some really good stuff. MC&IS and Siamese Dream were HUGELY successful and influential albums. 1979 and mayonaise were amongst the best songs of the 90s.
Also, no NIN? The Downward Spiral proved to be a huuuuuuuuuge commercial success despite its industrial and harsh sound, and it'd be a shame to ignore hits like march of the pigs, hurt, closer.
I would mention Radiohead, but there's too many hits from the multiple albums they released in the 90s.

Yeah, actually there's quite a few good Pumpkins songs for a party. Closer would probably work too, or one of its many remixes.
Also, the NIN in this is newer but the Ludacris song is older and the remix is better, imo.
