I'm not going to make some poll because I just want to talk about it instead. I think TL before SC2 forums came rolling around had somewhat of an older audience, but I'm not exactly sure how old. Myself I'm 25 and I feel a lot of the mods are at least 21+ and older. I find a lot of random posters that joined in the last year or two with like 7000+ posts to be younger. I mean, it's just like SC when you were younger you had more time for that crap, but when you got older, a lot of us at least, lost time for it.
So, now I'm just wondering how old are you and how much do you think your age effects how much time you spend on TL. Me personally I've been on it a lot this last month because I've been out with mono and there is just nothing to do, but usually I visit once or twice a day and post maybe once or twice a day if even in a given week.

i've met JWD and now.. for some reason when i think of TL mod his face comes to mind. im under the impression that all TL mods are attractive , post grad students , intelligent and witty
but yeah. i agree, my usage on TL has decreased a bit last year around this time i was SOOO excited. I think its because us "older" crowd are so emotionally tied with sc:bw. now that the scene has shifted we feel somewhat... lost?
|
I'm 25 too. I think it's reasonable to assume that many people here are our age. We were the ideal gaming age when Starcraft was released.
|
i always assumed the general population of TL is older than it actually is.
|
I played sc: bw all throughout middleschool/highschool, and im tired of all that, and dont really feel the motivation to sc2, though i wish i did.
|
I first found TL back in 2004 or 2005 but I didn't join for a while because I wasn't into the proscene yet, largely because I wasn't into one vs one at the time.
I'm turning 23 soon. I'm on fairly often particularly when there's some sort of tournament or whatever going on but also since this is just *the* site I visit when I've got free time. I seriously check TL more than I check Facebook. Part of this is because I'm a senior in my last semester of college now and I've got a lot more free time than I ever did before and I suppose I could be using it more productively...
|
I'm 23, been posting here since i was like... 18? daaaaamn that's a long time, although i'm sure a lot of the ppl here have me beat by many more years.
|
I'm 14, been posting here for two years. Really wish I had motivation to play more sc2 lol, already feel like one of those old vets who doesn't play the games anymore ;_;
|
lol i forgot to say, i'll be 19 in a 5 month.
|
See, because you were all, I'm assuming, around for most of SC:BW, but now with SC2 we have an influx in younger people flooding the forums. Not that it's all bad because we can't all just sit here and age together have to get some new blood in here.
|
22, almost 23
I started browsing TL when I was in Grade 10, now I'm almost done my 5-year university program... wow...
|
i am sixteen 17 in like 2-3 months

I'd guess the average is late teens, very maybe early 20s.
I'm 23, been here since I was 15 :O That's pretty sick when I think about it, been here through entirety of high school, college, and now job :O!

Am I allowed to be young and have come here before sc2?
I started competitive SC after SC2 was announced, but not because it was announced.

My favorite is Kona who has like 11K posts and I don't think he's even been on the site a year, haha. My first account was in 03, but I forgot the password and waited 2-3years to remake one because I thought TL was a bunch of elitist pricks. Which is absolutely true.

I'd think more or so around late teens, around 18? I feel like a lot of BW leftovers are older than the new SC2 crowd, for obvious reasons.

Yeah, I saw those before I posted this. I didn't really want some poll post though. More of a nostalgic look on your age and how it effects how you spend time on TL and what not. Discussions are more fun than some dumb poll

Older crowd? Bisu? That's just the beginning of the youngins.
I call older crowds the crowd that was here when Elky was trouncing around in the Starleagues.

If your old enough to have GARIMTO be the reason you started playing Protoss I'll except you as an older crowd.

Fun fact time! The average TL'er with a bday set is 23. For staff members it's 25 and for admins it's 26.
Also I thought R1CH was like 4 years younger than he is. :p

23? I just can't believe that. All the new SC2 forum people must not have set a birth date.

15 But i've been playing starcraft for the last 5 or 6 years and i'm not the average 15 yr old. Turning 16 in just over a month and i am just now really getting into Starcraft and wanting to play more games. Probably because when i started there was no Day[9] and i knew nothing of TL (if it existed, idk how old it is) and i recently realized just how much time it takes to keep up to date with all the pro matches and strats. But I love it and i'll play till i die.

17, been checkin out TL without an account for about 3 years though. Finally decided to create one for myself this year.
I check it out pretty much daily, often throughout that day as well.

I'm 14, I picked up broodwar again last year (First time I played was when I was 6).
I some how ran into starcraft having pro games after about a month of playing on battle.net and got hooked. I joined TeamLiquid a bit later because I never heard of it, just watched random games on Youtube. (I think Diggity)
I started playing on Iccup and heard of teamliquid but still didn't join because I didn't know what it was. When I reached D+ I found this site and joined right away! (something like that)

23 here, will be turning 24 fairly shortly. I'm pretty much a newbie compared to many of you though, was introduced to it by a friend in another game early 2009, maybe late 2008.
Usually I just lurk and don't post much in most communities, but I generally like the way this website is run. Strict modding but with common sense, something which is missing in many places. The signal to noise ratio is waaaaay higher here then half of the gaming websites out there. Maybe it's that the average age here seems to be higher then many places, shrug.

I'm 26, got into pro starcraft about a year ago, and visited daily for a while. I only actually made an account so that I could post a thread about making a fantasy draft league and then for the Broodwar Highlights thread. I don't often post because I just can't handle the general rudeness that's so pervasive on the internet. However, I read alot of the threads here, and have actually been posting a bit more lately, and may continue to do so(like this post!!)

Not exactly sure when I found the site but I didn't join until a while after that. I was in the prime age for SC like most others in this thread, 23 now, when it came out and have followed the proscene heavily for a couple of years watching every game and so forth (although not much this year because of school). But yeah, you can definitely tell the rough age of someone by their posting style. This SC2 wave of members better carry on the legacy of the high quality that is TL.

(something like that)
I got you beat, first played at 4. http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=113783

This doesn't surprise me in the least.

I joined when I was 18 in 2004, turned 24 two days ago ;;

I joined when I just turned 14, now I'm 17. Been playing Starcraft since like 7 or 8 years old though on and off until I was 13.

'cause you're a cute little suppywolf.
CM went ahead and did what I refused to do by making a really good TL census thread. Everyone go there and fill out his polls.

weren't you like 15 last summer?

I'll be 19 at the end of this month.
WOW WTF I just went to check how long I've had this account. I joined TL on this exact day 5 years ago!!!! It doesn't feel that long at all. Been spending much much less time here though with the time demands of university and a job.

I'm turning 20 in a few days. I feel about average age on TL here but going into the livestream chats I feel like I am 5 years older than everybody.

I am 17 so I guess I've been here since 15 years old.

23, joined in 2007 (I think) but had been lurking for a little bit before that. I'd guess the average TL age is about 17 right now. D:

I'm 20 and feel exactly like you (about livestream chat average age). I guess the banhammer in TL.net keeps 4chan away, fortunately.

Op is lying. He is a virgin. There is no way he has mono

21.
Some time ago I used to feel really young relative to the majority of the forum posters. This was mostly due to the fact that a lot of the posts were very well elaborated, or sounded like something someone mature enough would write.
Nowadays it just feels like TL's mean age has gone down real low, possibly due to the launching of the SC2 Beta, and I'm starting to feel like an old guy already as I now read the new posting style that's been going on in the forums since.
I now give a lot of respect to those old vets that have decided to stick around; names that I've seen posting on the forums for years, kinda feels like they're my brothers in a way.

Whatever the average age is, after you visit some threads in "General" or look at a livestream chat, you have a hard time believing it's higher than 13. But then you look at Final Edits and the Automated Ban List and all is fine in the world again.

Haha, considering this is only real blog I've ever made it's funny how many times it got 1 star from people. Not that I give two shits because, who would? People like Hawk just jealous of my boyish charm and ability to woo a crowd.

22, and I almost exclusively come on to TL from work, I only log in from home to get links to VODs, cause I can't watch them from work.

17 here. I started playing with my brothers when I was about 7, but that was only on our parent's forbidden computer as our computer wasn't good enough (played TONS of Diablo, and it usually stalled during the final cut scene after killing Diablo :/) . Then we got an N64, and I played a bit of SC on that. I didn't really pick it up again until I was 13 and had my own job, bought a computer and one of my friends got me back into Starcraft. I played a fair amount for about a two and a half years, but now I don't really have time to game. TL for me now is about the community, videos and tournaments.

16 in September 17... i was checking this site from time to time before but really registered week or two ago. Played SC from like 2005? but just with friends and we were all like D--. So i joined to motivate myself to play and actually move from that crappy D level, oh yeah and to make some friends too.

I'm a 21-year-old college student. I've been spending a lot less time on this site after I stopped playing BW, but still come back at least every other day or so since I still follow progaming. The SC2 stuff honestly doesn't interest me.
I also fucking hate the wave of new and younger members joining this site. It seriously feels like TL's collective IQ has dropped by about a dozen points with all the SC2-hyped idiots running around. I never discriminated against low post-count people before, but now I do unless I see good grammar, no bad spelling errors, and a spark of intelligence behind the post.
It seriously seems like the vast majority of them are here to bitch about not having a beta key and blaming it on the WoW casuals, or I swear to god, to slowly turn TL into a cesspool of idiocy.
I won't lie, I haven't been around here very long either, but I at least came in for Brood War and can speak in complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling (save the occasional typo).

28 in few days :D i visti tl.net since day one daily. its pretty much the only website i browse in the internet. :D

21, here every day usually

I am 24 and have been visiting TL since 19 i think. Never posted anything or even registered, until some time ago. It is good to hear that many people go through same thing as me, generally playing games is not that much fun anymore, especially when you have take care of your life issues - work, finances, girls. During studies, it was so much easier to just hang out, smoke pot and play games. TL is pretty much the only website i go to and i am here almost everyday for at least a few minutes.
