I just ordered a new computer from ecollegepc, and it works fine except every once in a while, it seems to randomly blue screen. I can't tell what the blue screen says because it restarts the computer before I can read it. When the computer arrived, I had to install the heatsink and windows 7 myself when it arrived, so that might be it. What I'd like to know are ways that I can figure out what the problem is. Could it be some defective part? Did I install the heatsink wrong? What are some ways I could figure out what is going wrong?
Oh, and I'm not sure if this is in any way related, but sometimes the taskbar will switch from the translucent win7 taskbar, to the solid taskbar, and will stay like that for a few minutes until the screen goes black and switches back to normal.

well, I'm fairly certain i did it right. I had my friend there who knows a bit about computers and we installed it together. We followed the directions and applied the thermal paste and all of that. Should I try reinstalling my heatsink to see if that is the problem?

Most likely problem is overheating. Check heatsinks for dust, make sure they're properly seated, etc.

If this is the case, it may not be a overheating problem. Can you give us more details on the exact times when you seem to blue screen? How frequently?
Knowing what the blue screen reads would also be very helpful. Try to read 5-7 words and write them down, continuing the next time you get a blue screen.

It happens completely randomly, as far as I can tell. It happens anywhere from zero-to-five times a day. I'll also try writing down what it says.
I'll go install Memtest86 and try it out.

its BSOD most probably. Go search that in google and see what error applies to your computer

I just tried running v 3.4 of Memtest86 twice, and each time it stopped at 3% saying "Unexpected Interruption - Halting" and had a big list of numbers and letters below it

What is the STOP error ID that you get (the hex number on the BSOD)? It's a pretty critical thing to know when diagnosing your computer.

If you burned Memtest on that computer then it may not have burned properly if the RAM is faulty.
Also, run Memtest on one stick of ram at a time so you can isolate which one is the bad one.

Hey, thanks for all the help. I haven't tried doing kainzero said yet, but I did install SpeedFan 4.40, and the temp of my computer will sometimes jump to 125C for an instant, then drop back down to 30C. It does it incredibly fast.

It is most likely the memory. There have been huge issues with OCZ memory on AMD platforms
