My family of four has 4 computers and a laptop now. What should I do with the oldest one? (Computer, not family member!) My mother suggested gleefully smashing it to pieces but I think that's just wasteful.
It isn't capable of running modern games so it's only useful as a work comp or as a corpse for me to mess around with and dissect.
The question is: what's the most responsible way to get rid of/use this comp? What is the most fun way? Which one should I do?
Thanks for all help in advance. If I decide that it's trash I'll end up giving it to a TL'er that likes to mess around with computer's (that lives in Vancouver).
Maybe donation?..

pretty much the only and the best use for an old computer

Your mother suggested to smash it to pieces? Im jealous. Oh and post the specs, its probably shit but Im just curious. :D

It's in a box but basically it's more than four/five years old :[
Dunno the specs and am too lazy to check. They are pretty irrelevant.
edit: holy shit the entire BW side of TL is being compacted into one section! SC2 taking over is a scary thought..its like gaining a stepfather or something lol

How old are we talking? (edit - ninja'd) I remember when I was a kid, we were moving house and my Dad just gave our old Acorn computer to one of the removal men as we weren't using it anymore. Looking bad I kinda wish he didn't, those things are relics now.

I'm sure there is some charity group who will accept it and probably put it to good use.

MS server is just an operating system like vista, XP, etc), do a clean install of it, and add it to your network(I.E. attach it to a LAN port on your router).
With a small home network there isn't really a whole lot of use for it, but it does have some uses. I have my server set up for VPN so I can access and control my computer at home remotely(from school, a friends house, etc). My family also uses my computer, so I can set up restrictions for their accounts so they don't mess anything important up.
I'm going to school for network and telecommunications, so the main reason is so I can do server related homework and labs without having to go up to the college to use theirs.

Microsoft actually has some really good an in-depth tutorials for working with and maintaining a server on their sites.

Seedbox is probably the best way to go.

How about a file server? You can just buy a crapload of harddrives and add it to the old PC.
