hello..I have another newb computer question...
so..the other day friend gave me a laptop which is HP G60..It had harddrive issues so I replaced hard drive...I put a Toshiba hard drive I had laying around...so..
The computer originally comes with Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS and I have a copy (not the original copy) of Windows 7 64bit...so I installed this on that laptop and used the product key that came with the laptop and it won't activate online...When I put the key during the installation, it didn't give me any errors..but When I open my computer...it says "2 days until automatic activation"...and when i click to activate it now, it says the key is denied...
does this mean I can't install Win 7 with the key came with the laptop?
what is that key even good for anyways...-_-;
Can someone explain how this works?

Also on the side note..can I install win 7 on different computer with the same key on the laptop? I really like win 7 and I wish to install it on my desktop using this laptop key...

Do you go to a university? See if you can get a copy from your school's software library.

You say the Laptop came with Windows 7, right? It was probably filled with bloatware as well. I'm guessing the key your laptop came with is for an HP Windows 7 disc that installs all the original bloatware too. It might not be good for a clean copy of 7. My ASUS laptop had this same problem.

But (I'm guessing) your key will only work with the special bloatware Windows disc that came with the laptop. A new hard drive won't change that. If the person who got the laptop still has that disc, I'd try that.

a friend of mine who recently got his desktop from newegg got this same problem. I tried to help him out but serial number is nowhere to be found

Windows key are tied to hardwares especially Laptops. Some laptops even load activation routines in their BIOS. This is how people cracked the Lenovo RTM copies.

Windows serial key are tied to the distribution. AKA the key for home premium English is only for home premium English etc..

Pick up the phone and call Microsoft.
