the game maybe still followed by some dedicated esoteric groups (who would most likely be better than everyone before them, via new trick/strats and bugs) but I really doubt it will continue to increase in popularity like that.
Just look at other competitive gamers from the 80s and shit. Hell even chess isn't like that.
