Why doesn't Ghermination get a "warning" for saying this: "and every time we have one of these threads a romanian steps up and get's laughed at due to their lack of sarcasm detection and weak english". It's like saying "yeah they're all the same: dumb and stupid". Instead I get a "warning" for saying exactly the same thing but replacing romanians with other race/nationality. | ||

Sorry mdb I've never been to Timisoara, but if you come in Cluj Napoca (Cluj in short, it's not THAT far away from Timisoara) I'll be sure to meet up with you, anything until Friday/Saturday this week. | ||

You make a good argument. However, the difference is that you said "niggers" which is a derogatory term. The others haven't used some derogatory term for Romanians, though I don't know if there is one. I agree that your argument is good but your word choice was what (probably) caused the warning. | ||

I think its a common problem for us eastern europeans to be a bit too much proud of ourselves and we seem to take innocent jokes too hard. | ||

Nobody I know hates Bulgarians. And yes Europeans, the farther to the east they are, the more different they seem to be than Western society regarding things like humor, and its many nuances | ||

And one of the reasons for it exactly that. Its too hard for us to make fun of ourselves and I kinda agree that we are not that good with sarcasm compared to the "western world". | ||

What I find a pretty big paradox is that Romanian (and I assume other neighbouring countries who have been under the communist oppression) people use a very unusual type of humor, we actually make fun of ourselves/our own problems most of the time. I find it really difficult to explain, but during the age of Ceausescu, a certain somewhat underground type of humor flourished, it's called 'haz de necaz', which is difficult to translate, but it's something along the lines of 'making fun of your own troubles'. The sarcasm in this type of humor/comedy is (rather, was) actually pretty strong and subtle. Why so many Romanians fail to comprehend American sarcasm is a mystery to me, but yes it does happen. | ||
