hi TL, I'm completely bored out of my mind at 1:30 AM and I'm having some cravings for a nice adventure/puzzle-ish game.
Something along the lines of The Neverhood, the Penumbra series, etc. I haven't really played many, so do me a favour and just namedrop your favourite adventure games!
^_^

Trine. Really nice game, you should try it .
They first ignore you. After they laugh at you. Next they will fight you. In the end you will win.

The Neverhood, that was such a sick game and I'd like totally forgotten about it, gonna have to dig it out and play it again. I remember the wierd ambience and claymation stuffed creaped my out so bad when I was younger.

Mayber a little more in the puzzle solving genre but both of the professor layton games are pretty good. The seventh guest was another oldschool game that was pretty good.

Wow, I cried at the end of Syberia as well. I took an entire week off high school to play it, it really reached my heart. I totally agree on 2 as well.

I would also recommend The Longest Journey. It's just a perfect adventure game =) The sequel, Dreamfall, is great too.

Grim Fandango also a classic!

The Little Big Adventure series are really good games under the adventure/puzzle genre. And for the point and click games, LucasArts games are gdlk.

Man, I'm really excited but also really hesitant. Adventure game budgets aren't what they used to be and a bad sequel can really ruin a great franchise, like what happened with Still Life. (By the way there's another recommendation right there, it's a dark serial killer mystery with occult underpinnings).

But yeah, as I was saying, in my mind Still Life 2 never happened, ever. The people who worked on it weren't even the same and so I reject their conclusion of + Show Spoiler +
who the killer really was in 1.

But if they make it right... oh man. Break open another box of tissues for me! =D Kate Walker fighting!

Edit: BTW if anyone's interested I have a 12+ page essay about the symbolisms in Syberia written by someone on AdventureGamers. It just goes to show how deep the game is!

Heavy Rain but its only for consoles...
Terran in particular is a notoriously strong race for a no brain skillhand bot style.

Just play the Runaway series. Trust me on this. Awesome games, new graphics, challenging enough but not incredibly difficult. Very appealing to new adventurers.

-Grim Fandango
-Monkey Island (4 is a little weak)
-Green Fandamgo
-Runaway
-Maniac 2: Day of the Tentacle
-Igor: Objetivo Uikokahonia
-Broken Sword (1 and 2, the 3 is shit)
-Indiana Jones (Fate of Atlantis,Last Crusade)
-Guilty
-Leisure Suit Larry (1 to 7, rest are shit, 7 is the best)
-Sam and Max

Most of them are abandonware but need an emulator in order to run.
Feel the power of the zerg swarm.
