I hate the clique's, I hate the whole social ladder mentality, I hate the people who run the place. It seems like a gigantic waste of time, kids are so fucking immature; at seventeen is when your brain is supposed to at a high developing point yet there is absolutely zero productivity in going to this place. I can't help but feel that they just created this place not to learn but to just stuff a bunch of kids together with different tastes and then milk the ones that turn out to be of some value to them for the most insignificant stupid things ever. i hate the imposed hierarchy and I hate the douchyness of the people that run this place including the arrogant self-centered, superflous kids that seem to be the center of the goddamn attention. God this place is such a joke, I wonder why people take this place so seriously let alone waste so much tax dollars on this shit. Luckily I am in my senior year but fuck this place!!!!

Nostalgic.

Just wait for university/college. Don't let the terribadness of HS affect your marks. Concentrate, get into a good tertiary education program and enjoy your future days with like-minded, intelligent individuals who likely had the same opinion about HS as you do.

Many HS communities suck for some of the reasons you provided, but to a large extent High School is what you make of it. If you have the right attitude you can both benefit and enjoy it.

My highschool is pretty large, so everyone only knows each other to an extent resulting in too many closed groups. I am not actually that unpopular, infact I know a lot of people and a lot of people do know me, just the idea and the role that this place plays in my life right now, I don't like....

And Micronesia, what are the other reasons?

It's not that highschool sucks, it;s that society as awhole sucks
basically you have to go through highschool without really giving a fuck about anything but yorself

study decently, get some decent grades, ajnd carry on with your life, go to college or not, whatever.

If you dislike your social environment fuck it, take care of your self, in some degree or another, you are obligated to follow the general concept that society has about a succesful individual

you can go to college or not later, it does not matter as much as you think

but

it;s useless and stupid to complain or bitch about it, do the best you can and man up
highschool is really trivial and people seem stupid if you grow out of it early

my 2 cents anfd fuck im so drunk yay

Knowing someone and being friends with someone is very different.

And as people said, it's also about having the right mindset. There were a lot of people I thought were retarded/douchebags in my high school, but I experienced nowhere near the rage that you're venting right now. It's basically the same everywhere, college isn't going to magically make the stupid people disappear, you still need to actively do something to not be bogged down by it...

High school DID suck.
I'm enjoying college far more than I enjoyed High School. Probably has to do with independence though - Highschool always felt so forced and restrictive. Oh, and being a nerd in HS can be pretty lonely sometimes.

he probably feels the same way you do, but the "extrme" rage is only present to carry a point.

as he said, op has many friends and is not a loner, but still feels that HS is pointless and does not enjoy it.

I thought high school was worthless but still managed to enjoy it just by screwing around with my friends, and ended up learning some stuff...

meh, society is a trade off. You give up a bit of individuality in order to gain stability, protection and various other needs and wants. It sux, but everyone has to deal with it for the most part.

I will give you some advice: Stop blaming the world around you for making your life unpleasant. It's pointless. No matter what life throws at you, it's never going to make itself good. You have to do that yourself.

i loved high school

just try to get the best experience out of it. my high school friends are lifetime best friends and i still go back to visit the school/teachers/etc during breaks. i would have to say i like college better but high school was awesome in its own ways. yea people are more immature and girls are desperate to be popular...so what, that's high school. can't imagine why it would be a waste of time. i wasn't a big partier or anything but still had so much fun in hs

Lol yes, there is. At least at my high school, but it could've been because I'm from a small town.

It was easy for me, though, as I have lots of diversity in my interests. Being active in sports, playing loads of computer games and partying on most weekends in high school nets you lots of aquaintances with different personalities : ).

Never had many close friends, however : (

It isn't. OP is over dramatic. If you seriously believe a select group of people run the school, then to you those people are going to appear to run it.

I can agree with that, Zoler. When I watch American TV shows about high school, there's always this huge division between Jocks/cheerleaders and I guess.. everyone else? Here if you played on a sports team no one gives a shit. I mean I hope you're having fun, but I don't respect you anymore for it.

But then I was apathetic in high school and many things probably went under my radar, esp. involving drama. TL is the only place I've ever experience this kind of immature bullshit that happens in American TV shows. The biggest problem I ever had in High School was avoiding people who wanted to be my friend but that I didn't like. The beauty of university is that you're pretty much anonymous anytime you want to be, and you never have to meet people you don't like. Even if you have a group project, the course only lasts 3 months.

My highschool days were best remembered and spent for ya know...the time I spent OUTSIDE of school. xD

Do some people really go to school to socialize? I thought it was just sleep through class, go have a cig and drive around with friends outside of school (graduated) for lunch, then come back and wait for an hour or two till I could get a ride from my friends to go chill (again ALL outside from school)

starcraft with my 4 noob friends, WoW and such, videooooo games. Top it off with the good ole green tree and my friend, life is grand.

I didn't like High School at the start, but it gradually improved for me. Grade 12 was awesome. Getting to know the place, making friends and getting involved with something (theatre for me) make it a way better experience.

I hated HS too, and I am also antisocial (not super obv or i wouldnt be here) but i think its my attitude that made me dislike the place so much..i didnt care about anything we did there and I had 0 drive to excel in anything.. i hated socializing just to establish a future position instead of being honest...i hated all the gossiping people in the school who think they are the shit and only care about material things..

is that there are groups of nerds, jocks and music geeks or whatever.

I agree with most other people that no one cares about how you were in high school when you've entered college, but the social hierarchy in high school exists in Sweden too. Of course, it's not as deep as American high school movies portray it, but I don't think anyone would argue that. Not even the OP.

This is 110% TRUE. I'm transferring from my uni after one year to another one and I asked the new uni: "do you guys want me to send my HS transcript" and they are like " uhhh...its nice to have but we wont look at it..."

The very year after I finished HS it's like it never existed.

High school is fucking great.

You have lots and lots of free time. You can waste it in any ways; if you find a productive way (like learning a language, or learning programming in C++ or Java, or learning to manage some project of your own) you can actually get a nice kickstart for later life.

High school was bullshit, but the social aspect was the only good part. When you are one of those people on top running the school it is so awesome. Being able to do/say whatever you want to whoever you want is fucking awesome. I had so many good times.

I am liking high school much more now than before but a lot of the people are self-centered assholes who seem to blame everything on the teachers and their parents.

Some advice for everyone that is hating is high school is to improve aesthetics, get along with everyone and try to befriend everyone, including those you hate.

I went to a pretty god-awful high school (relative to where I am now) where more than sixty-percent of the population didn't go to a four year college, plenty of kids getting pregnant and dropping out, one of the lowest level academic schools in the area, and you know what? I had a complete blast.

You hate the social ladder mentality. But no, there actually isn't really one. I am, quite honestly, a nerd, in all senses of the word. I'm Asian, 5' 4", quiet, have glasses, play piano, played a ridiculous amount of video games, lean, but not really skinny, took calculus as a freshman and differential equations as a senior. By your account, I should have been a bottom feeder, getting run over by kids leading some hierarchy and living a depressing life on my parent's basement for four years.

Except, actually, no one gave a flying fuck about who I was. No one gave two shits that I was a nerd. There's a good thing and a bad thing about that, but it's most of all, a good thing. You know why? Because then you can do whatever the hell you want and make yourself to be whoever you want to be. I along with my best friend were the first freshmen to ever take calculus as a freshman. Screams nerd. But I was nominated to homecoming court. Dated the girl's cross country captain. And took the ASB president/homecoming queen to prom.

This is turning into somewhat of a brag post, but I'm trying to prove a point. Like several others before me have said, high school is what you make of it. The average high school is actually a waste of time when you talk about it academically. Most students forget what is taught to them, although they do get some sense of an introduction to what they learn in college. But I think that you learn far more about social interaction.

Maybe before you go bitching about how everyone is putting you down, you become someone people can actually respect.

i dont like high school too much. im generally nice to most kids but i dont like most kids anyways. i really only have 1 close friend and he does his own thing anyways, not too concerned most of the time tho

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in high school, in the first couple years had some pretty bad kids in my class who would just do the most hilarious things to piss off the teachers (they were all expelled by the end of the second year). I got away with screwing around all the time in class and doing some really quite bad things (for example my friend and I found out that on some of the Macs they had this switch for changing between UK and European voltage, by switching it to European you completely fried the computer because the voltage was higher than it expected, we did this to about 8 computers in this one classroom and forced them to replace them all earlier than they were going to lol), skipping class to go get baked and then returning to school stoned out our minds, saw some and even participated in a couple of amusing fights, had a good group of friends and despite taking it easy all the way through I got all the grades I needed to get into the vast majority of UK universities. Good times.

Heh just remembered a classic, basically first thing in the morning we had a 10 minute registration class before going off to our actual first subject of the day, this one morning we come in at 8:30 and the teacher is making us all wait outside the class while he and this other guy finish setting up this presentation with computers and projectors and shit for the first class of the day, finally he lets us into the room and he's freaking out like "no one touch any of the equipment or cables" (quite a few of them all in the same multiplug). 5 minutes later we're leaving registration to go to our first class, I trip over the main power cord and pull it out the wall, EVERYTHING dies, the other teacher guy yells out "nooooooo", I was just like "it wasn't me" and walked out of there, my friend bends down to plug it back in, Mr Dawn (our registration teacher) sees him doing this and assumes it was him, raged pretty hard at him and demanded that he come back to see him at the end of the day haha.

Yeah High School was awesome, there weren't really any cliques or some group that ran the school or some shit like that. I mean does that actually happen???

High School was pretty much be who you want to be, play whatever sport you want, hang out with whoever you want and do your schoolwork. It was fucking awesome!!

Right now, my highschool contains the most introverted and indifferent group of females ever. All they care is study, study, study, volunteer, study, study etc. I honestly hope university will have more diversity in females than my highschool. If girls in life were all like the ones I have in my highschool, I think I might turn gay.

It's how you learn how to deal with annoying people so when you get an annoying roommate in college who is always in the room and plays computers games for literally 24 hours in a row every other day, you can handle it.

You will literally forget everything about highschool the second you leave.

My highschool experience was miserable garbage. I tried to make the best out of it, I joined a lot of clubs. Ultimately I didn't fit in to a single one and I couldn't draw anything positive no matter how hard I tried. People just don't like me, or they pretend to so they can use me because I'm pathetic.

The one thing I miss about highschool is at least having 30 minutes a day where I can see the 1 or 2 friends I have instead of 30 minutes a month.

enjoy it while it last, that's all I'm telling you.

You feel like you hate it now, but once you go to college, you have so much to worry about. Because GPA will matter, your extracurricular activities WILL definitely define you to employers when trying to find a job, and that's what college is pretty much is. Get your partying out of the way in your freshman year. I see quite a few slobs in their junior year that still got their head in freshman year and they realize why they can't find a freaking job that pays decent. I know I got off on a tangent but just enjoy HS while you can because you don't have all the shit to worry about when trying to tackle it alone. If you have someone to support you and guide you it won't be so bad but if you don't....Life is about to start.

And also, there WILL be douches in college just like in high school.

Stay busy in college (after partying in freshman year :D), and I mean the good kind of busy, get involved on campus so you don't look like you waltz through college to employers.

(God I miss High School)

Knowing someone and being friends with someone is very different.

And as people said, it's also about having the right mindset. There were a lot of people I thought were retarded/douchebags in my high school, but I experienced nowhere near the rage that you're venting right now. It's basically the same everywhere, college isn't going to magically make the stupid people disappear, you still need to actively do something to not be bogged down by it...

I'm in high school currently, and I'm actually enjoying it alot. I've met some cool people, and made some great friends at my school. Maybe its just me, but I don't see all of the cliques and social groups that supposedly pervade high school. I actually haven't seen them, people are really friendly and outgoing, and its easy to ignore the ones who aren't.

I frankly see high school past grade 10 in the US just used for babysitting to lower crime rates in delinquents, it's esp pointless when you live in an area like mine and you can just drop out at grade 10 you could try to complete high school at that grade but it require you to take community college at the same time as high school for certain credits purposely dulled out to prevent early graduation and go to community college were you don't need to take the ap test to get college credit for classes.

Also i'd like to point out "man i'm better and more aware of myself then all these dam shitty highschoolers this place sucks" you are so original there i mean totally dude.

High school was great fun. It just depends on what 'group' you're in. If it sucks that much for you just get drunk/high before class.

The "group" I was in for high school was basically "Asian nerds." I still had a crapton of fun and we still did whatever we wanted lol, and these people are basically the best friends I've ever had and I doubt that will change anytime soon. Too many people make a big deal out of nothing TBH, stop taking your shit so seriously and you'll realize there was never anything to bitch about to begin with, you were just being a nub. There's no external factor that's forcing your time to be miserable and/or worthless.

What was so bad about high school? In terms of academics, it was just how well you could bullshit your way out of things. :D I really had tons of fun, especially in my junior and senior year. Wasn't much of a partier, but still, if I could go back to high school, I probably would. Life was just so much easier back then...):

High School is fun..you just have to carry the "I AM THE FUCKING MAN" attitude with you, and show your confidence, people love that, unfortunately I didn't do that that till this year.

High school was so boring. Undergrad was pretty fun, now grad school is when im working the hardest and partying the hardest haha grad school is stress hell but also very fun :D. High school for me was just my group of friends then I really didn't pay attention to the other groups. There wasn't any hierarchy and cliques in the classical sense though.

I'm going through highschool. I don't really mind the whole clique thing. As long as you have your own group of friends that aren't complete jerks, then you have all you really need as regards to social life in highschool. People to talk to. You don't need to be one of those "center of attention" people. Let them do your thing, you do yours.

Get the college and you will miss high school. But, honestly high school was a joke, everything is sooo confined to basic textbooks. I miss those chill days, exams were cake.

edit: Too bad I lacked attendance, high exam scores but terrible attendance. In the end it bombed my high school GPA, oh well. You basically just review everything in the first year of college, my professors actually tell us to forget most of what our high school teachers thought us(Mostly English).

should have joined band. band trips made high school worth it for me. skipping class to go to six flags and disneyland? hell. yes. seriously though, i really enjoyed playing but i know a lot of people who were in it for the fun (and to fuck up the quality of the band -_-) i would have been a very angsty teen in hs without it.

and don't worry, college is less annoying most of the time.

I don't know if it's all that bad. At least, unlike in junior high school, black girls won't come up to and ask if you like black girls, and then tell the whole school that you are a racist should you answer in the negative.

Lol yes, there is. At least at my high school, but it could've been because I'm from a small town.

is that there are groups of nerds, jocks and music geeks or whatever.

I agree with most other people that no one cares about how you were in high school when you've entered college, but the social hierarchy in high school exists in Sweden too. Of course, it's not as deep as American high school movies portray it, but I don't think anyone would argue that. Not even the OP.

I dont really see the hierarchy in HS, when I was there I had friends who were jocks, some nerds, cheerleaders and pretty much most other groups. To me it was about the person not what group they fit into, and having such a variety of friends helps out in the long run.

I had a similar experience. My high school was very small and close-knit, so pretty much everyone knew each other and my whole class were friends. I miss those times =(. University is awesome too though!

I'm probably going to miss high school a lot. Frankly, the years of my life I want to forget are middle school.

Then again, my high school wasn't really as clique-oriented as the stereotype seems to be. We had a very diverse range of students, and everyone managed to have common ground somewhere. Fights and conflicts were usually in their own "cliques," not amongst others.

I was well-liked though, and I would hang out with the nerds/geeks mostly.

Still, I don't want to go back to it. I like being more independent, and college doesn't have all the HS bullshit, from not only students but also from faculty.

By your senior year haven't you found the 'right' friends? I'm in my senior year as well and I've almost completely separated communications with my elementary school friends (half of my elementary school kids go to my high school).

I also don't like the social ladder either and it gets annoying having that hierarchy. The best thing to do is go through it ignoring that social aspect and most importantly, keep to yourself.

I dunno I had a lot of fun in High School. I guess it's because I found friends pretty easily and they've stayed with me

Just gotta find people who have similar interests or like similar things and then branch out imo.
