Knowing someone and being friends with someone is very different. And as people said, it's also about having the right mindset. There were a lot of people I thought were retarded/douchebags in my high school, but I experienced nowhere near the rage that you're venting right now. It's basically the same everywhere, college isn't going to magically make the stupid people disappear, you still need to actively do something to not be bogged down by it... he probably feels the same way you do, but the "extrme" rage is only present to carry a point. as he said, op has many friends and is not a loner, but still feels that HS is pointless and does not enjoy it.
I thought high school was worthless but still managed to enjoy it just by screwing around with my friends, and ended up learning some stuff...
Well, freshmen year was miserable, but then the later three years were pretty cool ^_^

Play more Starcraft.
No thx, starcraft has been solved pretty much, too many protoss players are mechanical and I hate flash and Jaedong and their fanbases.

Seriously, it's like you pretty much forget HS in a few months once you're out, and you realize how meaningless all the stuff you just complained about was.

meh, society is a trade off. You give up a bit of individuality in order to gain stability, protection and various other needs and wants. It sux, but everyone has to deal with it for the most part.

I will give you some advice: Stop blaming the world around you for making your life unpleasant. It's pointless. No matter what life throws at you, it's never going to make itself good. You have to do that yourself.

It's funny how high school over here is not like that at all. You can be yourself however you are and you can do whatever you wan't. There's no hierarchy or groups or stupid clubs.

i loved high school
just try to get the best experience out of it. my high school friends are lifetime best friends and i still go back to visit the school/teachers/etc during breaks. i would have to say i like college better but high school was awesome in its own ways. yea people are more immature and girls are desperate to be popular...so what, that's high school. can't imagine why it would be a waste of time. i wasn't a big partier or anything but still had so much fun in hs

HS > College
High School was the best, absolute no fucking responsibilities or worries.

Lol yes, there is. At least at my high school, but it could've been because I'm from a small town.
It was easy for me, though, as I have lots of diversity in my interests. Being active in sports, playing loads of computer games and partying on most weekends in high school nets you lots of aquaintances with different personalities : ).
Never had many close friends, however : (

It isn't. OP is over dramatic. If you seriously believe a select group of people run the school, then to you those people are going to appear to run it.

I can agree with that, Zoler. When I watch American TV shows about high school, there's always this huge division between Jocks/cheerleaders and I guess.. everyone else? Here if you played on a sports team no one gives a shit. I mean I hope you're having fun, but I don't respect you anymore for it.
But then I was apathetic in high school and many things probably went under my radar, esp. involving drama. TL is the only place I've ever experience this kind of immature bullshit that happens in American TV shows. The biggest problem I ever had in High School was avoiding people who wanted to be my friend but that I didn't like. The beauty of university is that you're pretty much anonymous anytime you want to be, and you never have to meet people you don't like. Even if you have a group project, the course only lasts 3 months.

My highschool days were best remembered and spent for ya know...the time I spent OUTSIDE of school. xD
Do some people really go to school to socialize? I thought it was just sleep through class, go have a cig and drive around with friends outside of school (graduated) for lunch, then come back and wait for an hour or two till I could get a ride from my friends to go chill (again ALL outside from school)
starcraft with my 4 noob friends, WoW and such, videooooo games. Top it off with the good ole green tree and my friend, life is grand.

I didn't like High School at the start, but it gradually improved for me. Grade 12 was awesome. Getting to know the place, making friends and getting involved with something (theatre for me) make it a way better experience.

I hated HS too, and I am also antisocial (not super obv or i wouldnt be here) but i think its my attitude that made me dislike the place so much..i didnt care about anything we did there and I had 0 drive to excel in anything.. i hated socializing just to establish a future position instead of being honest...i hated all the gossiping people in the school who think they are the shit and only care about material things..
/end rant

What I meant with:

is that there are groups of nerds, jocks and music geeks or whatever.
I agree with most other people that no one cares about how you were in high school when you've entered college, but the social hierarchy in high school exists in Sweden too. Of course, it's not as deep as American high school movies portray it, but I don't think anyone would argue that. Not even the OP.

I'm transferring from my uni after one year to another one and I asked the new uni: "do you guys want me to send my HS transcript" and they are like " uhhh...its nice to have but we wont look at it..."
The very year after I finished HS it's like it never existed.
