I need to take a writing class to graduate and I was looking over the list of classes offered and I found this:

Sections 34, 48, and 58
This section of WRIT 1133 is devoted to the MMORPG World of Warcraft. While immersing yourself in the game, you will conduct qualitative, quantitative, and text-based research on the World of Warcraft community and gameplay in order to craft documents that will effectively meet the rhetorical needs for that community. This will be an academically rigorous writing course that will involve learning through play, analysis, and research of the game. You will be expected to play/subscribe to the game during this course, so you need to have access to a laptop that can run the game for in-class work."
One of the sections fits in with my schedule... I'm seriously considering this because it will be really easy right? I've only ever played WoW on the 10 day trial where you are limited to level 20 but I really enjoyed leveling up and doing quests n' stuff. I will have to spend like $40 on the subscription though but I can count that as a book fee basically.

I've never taken one personally, but I'd imagine these specialty topics courses (other examples are Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc.) usually are filled with hardcore fans that know a lot more than you to begin with. So you're at a disadvantage going in. Plus they probably assign a lot of work so that they can be taken seriously by the department.
Sounds like a bad idea to me, but if you're up for it, by any means go ahead.

Sounds good in theory but if you aren't prepared for a huge faggot of a teacher, you should probably not gamble.
I mean really? How old must he be and he's decided to teach a course on WoW? Your chances don't look too good.
I mean of course I could be wrong, but just like any other class you should try to find previous students or teacher ratings.

To say the least. I read a bit of "Leveling Zones" and the introduction was these retards talking about why they took the class. It only went downhill from there as the authors decided to tell the tale of how they started in WoW

Hahahaha yeah. Next time I have trouble starting an essay I'll look at these brilliant examples for some ideas.

Nice job finding that Peter. Looking at that has me a bit wary, I probably won't know nearly as much about WoW as most people entering the class and my other classes won't allow me a ton of time to level to 70 and learn all the intricacies of the games.
ahh it's a tough choice.

If that really is representative of the quality of writing produced in the class, you should be fine. Easily one of the worst essays I have read in recent memory (excluding Kent Hovind's dissertation) and definitely not university worthy.
