I was wondering if there were any brothers from any fraternities on TL. I'm going to be attending the "recruitment week" events for ΣAE next week (we can't call it rush on our campus) and I'm confident in my shot at a bid. So I was wondering if any other TLers have gone greek, and what their experiences with it were.

it also depends a lot on the culture of your campus itself, the greek experience varies a ton depending on what college you attend.

in holland when you join a frat/sorority (they're mixed, although you form subgroups which aren't mixed) you go to a camp that last 1-2 weeks which is basically one big party

...then dropped out once I realized I was joining a frat. The second time they almost got me, but I woke up again.

the good is that they're known to be very wealthy, i'm pretty sure the average member's family makes $500,000 or more. and not surprisingly a lot of girls are at their parties. the bad is that they're all known to be douchebags, very conservative, and racist.

SigEp = Sigma Phi Epsilon, SAE = Sigma Alpha Epsilon they are known by those two names/acronyms nationally. SAE at duke is made up of pretty cool guys who are rich as fuck. but fraternities differ so much depending on the school

But yes, frats aren't really for everyone, as I know of it, they require a lot of commitment, bonding, and fellowship in order to blend in well. Basically, think of it as this way, if you wanted to make friends or be with a social group but failed miserably in the past, frats might be your other option to look into, it is easier and I believe you are paying like monthly or semester for "dues" so pretty much you are joining frat to BUY FRIENDSHIP AND CONNECTION. That's my 2 cents there.
