So I was talking in a thread about MSU Starcraft and it made me start thinking. We need to have a Midwest LAN.
Facts: The venue I'm thinking of using is one that has hosted many lans in Lansing Michigan.
This Venue would require people to bring their own computers (since we're just playing Starcraft I MIGHT be able to supply some towers.)
We would probably Watch the OSL Finals at night.
Entry Price wouldn't be bad >20$ (lower with more attendees)
There would be a tournament with a cash prize
Pizza would probably be included(It's cooked at the venue don't request any brand)
So now I need to know...
Poll: Would you Attend this LAN (Vote): Yes (Vote): No
If there is enough interest I'll add some more info

|
Awesome idea. I would show up for sure!
|
I'm not in the area, but bringing computers would definitely be a pain lol
|
I'd do it, depending on date, of course. Laptops ftw!
|
Yeah, I could use an excuse to go visit EL, and this would be a great one!
|
Depending on the date a might be willing to make the drive, will keep an eye on this.
|
lansing too far away
|
|
What exactly is the fee for if you are requiring people to bring their computers?
|
aww im in st.louis

Im in Illinois, I think the 4 hour drive is too far away. The University of Chicago people should have one, I think they had something like it last year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, the details are a bit sketchy.
|
4 hours is too far, I've drive 4 hours to lans several times a year. The cost is to cover venue food snacks and what ever money is left over after all of that is taken care of goes to the prize pool. I'll probably be donating some of my own money into the prize pool as well if interest is high enough.
Just a rough guess but if ~30 people show it would be maybe 10$ each

mid may is bad everyone is out of school so people who dont live in michigan but who go to MSU wont come

dont you only live like 1-2 hrs away?

I also think doing this when school's out might be an issue... unless you actually live in lansing, which most of us don't if we go school there.
|
|
|
|
Considering I live like 40min from east lansing I would definitely come.
|
I'd be up in the air about this, depending on the date and if I'm still in MI I'd be down for sure.
I'm like 2 hours NW of Lansing, so I'd be willing to make the trip.
|
Sorry, I don't drive, I don't have $20, and if I could somehow get a ride and $20 it would be very inconvenient to bring my computer and monitor. If however someone wants to drive me from central ohio there, sponsor me the $20, and has a laptop I could plug my keyboard and mouse into, and it happened on a day I had no other plans for or had anything to do for the day after, then sure!

You dont have $20 in several months? You could go around picking up cans and get that by then.
|
I just want to relay this 20$ is worst case
|
Haha you sent pms to people in Ontario? Thats such a pain to drive to the states for like a half day of fun

Possibly, although my schedule is ridiculously busy this semester. I think the biggest issue is probably me not having a car that's winter viable, and I don't think my roommate would drive me. Anyone wanna pick me up? -.^?
|
It's looking like we've got almost 10 people.
|
I'm not getting the byoc hate. I thought that was typical -_- at least for an average non-SC LAN.
|
I want to do this, but I haven't played much of any SC in quite awhile.
|
Depends on the date, the number of other terrible starcraft players, and whether or not I could hitch a ride from someone (considering I'm going to school in Urbana/Champaign Illinois.)
|
I would TOTALLY make this i live in kalamazoo (hourish away) so i would TOTALLY go to this ^_^ iv never been to a land yet and there isnt anything really near me so ill definately make this (to bad i SUCK)
|
I might go, but it depends heavily on timing. I have cycling races most weekends from end of February - first weekend in May.

Im in Columbus too, so if I did attend, you could come along - although transport is all I can offer and even then someone (c'mon Ohio peeps, speak up) to split gas costs with would be appreciated.. but if I am set on going, not mandatory
I would need to know dates before I can commit to anything of course, but I would deffinatley be intrested.
And can I make the suggestion of making the venue a PC cafe so people wouldnt have to lug their desktops around? (no laptop here >< )

It sounds interesting but I probably won't go 90~95%

In fact i could get to ontario faster than i can to lansing from my hometown.

besides, being a michigan driver should make all cars winter viable.

No lans in kzoo!?
www.whatistheplan.com

Also I just want to clear this up before hand. Holding this in a PC Cafe will significantly increase the price. Not to mention We can't really control the space (music, announcers table, etc etc etc) I was really hoping to have a Tournament/OSL Finals Party but that may not work due to the date of the OSL Finals being so close to the end of the semester.
I can't emphasize this enough though, I'm currently just looking for Interest in the event ie: Would you consider coming if the time was right.
|
:| well shit wish i knew about that...but i ment more or less a starcraft lan but hey i will come to this no matter when it is you can count on it

Even having it the day of the OSL quarters or a semifinal would be fun. Maybe even the winners league finals or something, depending on when that happens. Even thought its a far drive for me I would considering going.

I'd definitely be down to attend this. I'd be driving up from downriver, so if anyone in between there and lansing needs a ride we could maybe work something out.
|
I might need a ride from Howell if anyone would be coming through that way.

dont forget to bring your white sheet and hood!

Howell is on the way for me if i'm coming from home
edit: and yes you must come dressed as KKK member from howell if you wish to receive a ride.

There is a surprising number of black people that now live in Howell

In Ann Arbor right now, very very busy schedule this semester but if I'm free then it should be ok. What is the name of the place?

I sent my PM to hot_bid and Kennigit, if anyone is closer with either of them it'd make the event seem far more legit having TL admins there.

Well, HB plays with our team... The main issue is probably time, like it is for most of us interested in going.
|
I met hot_bid at a table tennis tournament at my school and I didn't even know it was him until after I made the TT thread here lol.

why do we need a tl admin? ;\ I dont see how it makes it more legit. I mean I hope they come but if they dont it doesnt downgrade the lan itself.
|
I'm just saying that it might draw some people who were on the fence about it.

For the tournament.
Is this place just a room they rent out? Can't imagine a lan center that doesn't have computers there.
|
I might be able to come but its a 4 hour drive from my house and a 5 hour drive from Kent State. =/
|
The place I'm considering is the Royal Scot, it's a bowling alley/golf course and I'm personal friends with the Owner's son. They have very large banquet rooms there and I could get a really good price for the place and I'm sure one of my other friends would lent me his networking gear and probably help me setup and run the tournament there.

hey, anyway your friend who's the owners son could get me a discount on a golf membership? Its like 2K with cart and tahts retarded expensive for a 20 year old college student ;o.

Hey, so yeah, who is over 21 is the most important part I think.

ill be 23. :OOOOO Royal Scot is kind of expensive for pitchers. 9$ Sucks

sadist just start playing MTG and going to Waldoman Lans you'll get to know him then maybe he can hook you up with a discount

I'm rarely ever out towards lansing so I don't know any good bars.

Bump - Whats the status on this? We ever work out a date?

with 18 people I really don't know if I can justify this...it would probably end up costing too much per person to cover the venue also SC2 is out now so I'd rather wait for launch to see if I can just organize a SC2 tournament
|
Probably in the summer eh -_-;

I would look for some kind of tournament this summer yes.
