- I am a complete mess when it comes to SC. I just started a few months ago and quickly realized how out of my box I am. I'm a FPS kind of person (read: Halo) so the idea of using my laptop for something other than homework and dicking around the on web is new. I'm currently still in the Terran chapter of the single player but hope to be done with that by the end of the month.
- On paper I'm a full-time student at UCSD. In reality I'm trying to balance school and things I enjoy without suffering physically or mentally. This includes the new affection I have for SC.
- Starcraft is my 2nd exposure to Korean culture (I don't know how else to describe it). My first is through Taekwondo. As a 2nd Dan I've been studying for 5-6 years, taught for ~3. It's been difficult to attend classes (read: school) but I've finally reached a balance. It's been much better.
- My siblings are KPop obsessed, so my tolerance is minimal. I don't have anything against it but after hearing it non-stop at home (and then again at the dojang) my head spins. Probably because its the same 5 songs for 2 months.
- I'm not Korean.
- I attend Comic-Con every year. 75% of the time in costume (hoping to add Blizzcon to this list one day). I'm not as avid about cosplay as some of my friends, but it is def. one of my major hobbies.
- I have an unhealthy obsession with pandas, turtles and corgis.
- I'm an avid hockey fan. Go Wings. No I don't bandwagon. I was born/lived in Michigan.
- While I know the learning curve for SC is extremely not-in-my-favor, I'm actually really excited about getting more involved in the SC community. Even if just as a lurker. I have set two goals for myself in this instance: One is to compete (eventually) in some sort of local tourney and win at least one game. Not the tourney, just a game. The second is right now just a thought, but we'll see how school goes.
She's not mine. I'm not allowed to have dogs.

damn what's going on in here. Oh, welcome to Starcraft by the way. Best game you will ever play.
|
Thanks. I always thought the first blog post was supposed to be the mini-bio. Unless that's too cliche now.

Welcome to TL im sure you will have a great time with SC, both the game and the community has so much to offer. GL with winning a tourney, you can make a goal trying to win in an ICCup tourney where the competition isent so hard.
I feel sorry for you about your siblings being addicted to Kpop tho, that would kill me >.<

you're not korean but your siblings listen to kpop? HAHA that must suck so badly
|
I just want to win a game. Baby steps.
|
Yay Michigan!
Also good luck on your SC endeavors, it took me like 2 years to hit C (without any outside help) so yeah it is pretty crazy but still an awesome game.

Dude. It's to the point where they've memorized 99.8% of the dance moves. So at the dinner table someone will say something and it's just enough to get them to relate it to a song and dance.
They're also obsessed with the dramas.

Wait you're in college? Dude, when I started college i stopped playing games alltogether save for a rare occasion, why the hell would you start now, this is the best time of your life. Play sc when you're retired or something.
Here's what you really need to do: -move out, seriously, get as far away from your siblings as possible -join a frat -party -study -start working out, and get your friends to do so as well because it helps your motivation
This will assure you of an awesome college time. Ditch the computer, you're not in high school anymore, just get a laptop or something.

School is cheaper if I live at home. And I go to a college in my home city so moving out would be a waste of money. Also family is a big part of my life, being away for birthdays and graduations literally made me sad at the thought. I'm the eldest of 4, I'll leave when I finish u-grad.
Can't join a frat. I have a vagina.
Check.
Check.
Semi-check. Motivation isn't a problem.

ya tell someone how to live their life that's the way!
don't worry about winning a game, worry about learning and improving, then many winnings shall come.

Kids these days!
For what its worth I also picked up SC in college. I play on nights I don't have other things going on, I see nothing wrong with it. BW is also a convenient hobby as far as giving you something to watch saturday and sunday mornings while hungover (this is how I watch the majority of starleague games). Frits, the dude is a TKD instructor I'm "pretty sure" he is more physically active than most people's workout routines.
Welcome to TL and enjoy your stay! If you like dogs you should talk to that Husky the Husky guy. I hear he likes dogs too.

just saying living away from home is awesome and many of my friends do it despite them already living close to here, if you're frequently bored and have time for starcraft you might just be missing out

You seem like a cool guy. Welcome to TeamLiquid!

Sad to say, you'll probably hear a lot of kpop on the streams of live SC matches if you're ever up late to watch them =[
My sister also got into kpop (but after we got into pro-SC together) so I can relate to the undying rage you must feel; the last two summers I've been home she's tried to teach me some of the dances, which I do grudgingly but never really remember.

Welcome to the narrow-minded world of Starcraft, where people will argue over whether a certain progamer is hot or not!

I figured this out all too late for the MSL finals, the first live match I watched.
