If you haven't played the hell out of it already, GemCraft. Game is addictive as fuck. It's like a traditional tower defense game where you have increasingly large waves coming at you, of monsters with different attributes. You acquire mana by killing monsters, which allows you to place more towers, or buy gems. Towers don't do anything on their own, and you have to place a gem inside of them. Each gem has a different color and attribute. Green is poison, and does more damage, even when not firing, Orange is mana, and grants you a certain amount of mana depending on the grade level, red is splash damage, and so on. You can combine multiple gems, to make use of more attributes, but it reduces the damage a bit. And there's a couple other things to it.

There's two games out in the series, and both are thoroughly enjoyable.

With the first, you can add traps that slow the enemy down as they walk through it.

The major upgrade in the sequel is that the traps no longer do that, but you can put a gem in them, and they'll have a similar effect to their attribute.

You gain experience after every battle, which you can put into talents that make it easier. Nothing really unique, but things that will allow you to start with a higher mana pool, gain more mana per kill, increase your gem's damage, and so on.

I recommend it because while it isn't as graphically fleshed out as Plants vs Zombies, it's easily as addictive, and while not quite the same, the gameplay is pretty similar.

Go to MODDB and look for some free recommended mod. You can acctually find pretty amazing stuff that way. For example, if you own Portal, you can download Portal: Prelude. It's honestly just as good as the original for free. (Although a lot harder.)

i'd go with tetris or stepmania. once you get good enough at stepmania, nothing below ten will feel anything close to intense, but actually strangely relaxing. and tetris just because its still competitive, but you can play intense if you want.

Anything that hasn't already been spoilered.

Oh whoops.

But in all honesty, I really enjoy games such as stupid defend your castle games where you don't have to think as much. I find Addictinggames.com still pretty good for stupid, pointless games that kill some time.

Heroes of Might and Magic is a good choice. It's strategic, but turn-based: so you are not rushed to make strategic decisions.

Yea i'm the same way alffla, I've recently downloaded this 25 portable game pack of demonoid (i think it was). It had bejewled 2 and Luxor 3, with a bunch of other less mentionable titles.
Luxor 3 is pretty cool, I really liked how there was all that unlockable shit in PvZ and Luxor has a lot of the same. Also there is a puzzle mode which has a few challenging levels.
PS- if you DL, pro tip is to farm the shit out of the nile river levels and rack up the points and coins by setting up huge chains on the scarab in the back that don't kill it. (i think I used like 1b-1r-2b-2r-2b-2r-2b-2r-2b-1r then shot a blue on the middle blue stack)

PPS- there is another game that my gf got called Cradle of Rome which is one of the hardest puzzle games i've ever played (especially the last couple of levels) there's 100 levels.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

Well it's basically quake 3 arena but free and via browser.

My recommendation would be braid, a great puzzle game with awesome atmosphere, artsy graphic and a great soundtrack.
Not for free, but it's worth the few bucks (Although I'm sure it's not hard to.. you know)

Quake games are definitely not the right kind of games for relaxation, unless you want to play with the lowest level bots or something, but that aint fun.

I've heard good things about Braid and if you haven't already you should play some of the Half-Life 1/2 games and mods.

edit: personally i've had lots of fun in beating solo tower defence ums maps at both SC and WC3, it can get a bit repetitive though, but it isn't as fast paced/serious as laddering.

I'd say try Oblivion if you havn't. Easy to DL and pirate, open world to explore without a linear forced storyline. I like RPGs like this so I find it an easy and relaxing way to waste time. One player, always there to grind through a little further. Fun game.

Fallout 3 too

I would recommand civ 2 / civ 3 / civ 4 and HoMM3 or Battle for Wesnoth ( this one is free ) for turn based strategy games.
Civ games are really long and quite complex but this game is just EPIC. If you have time to waste and like history and strategy you MUST play Civ.

Anyway the best thing isn't history itself but the anachronisms. Like raping horsemen and archers with MBT and stealth bombers. Cesar, Genghis Khan, Alexandre and Napoleon are nothing compared to you !

I would have loved to play the TL succession game but i don't have Civ4 atm

Try out Igneous.
The game is simple and fun.
It's really well done.
