So I figured I would save a few bucks by buying my text books for college online at Amazon and a few other web sites this semester. Unfortunately the books were delivered while my dorm building was closed (duh) so they got returned to sender or are being held by the shipping people ups/usps.
Ughhh this is really annoying because I can't really determine for sure where they even are. Anyone else ever had any experiences with this? I think i'll have to buy the overpriced books from the school bookstore and hope I can get my other ones within the week (I can return the ones to the bookstore for a full refund within one week.)

Even if you don't get your books within the week, is it really a big deal to not have your books the first few weeks of school?

local post office, ask the hosts at your building?

u can probably email the seller on amazon to find out my textbooks once got lost so i had to call ups and request an investigation but for ur case, i think the packages might just have been returned to sender

lol? that's a good approach indeed

most stats show students use their books only 1-2 a semester. Who cares?

You don't need your books unless all your friends figure this out as well

This happened to me before but instead I accidentally* put the wrong house address and it didnt even exist in the area. So the UPS guy delivered it to some other family down the block that had the same last name, checking the tracking info might help.

lol when I first read the title, I thought it would be something like you ran over a grandma and ran away

check the info to see where they are and pick them up?

At my University all mail received when the University is not open (like Christmas break) is stored and then delivered when everyone returns to the halls. It would cost a LOT of money to ship everything back. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.

Most people who sell stuff on Half.com and Amazon.com use Media Mail through USPS (because it's uber-cheap). It is hella slow, and doesn't in itself provide tracking. This is good and bad news for you.
If the seller never put tracking on it, he'll probably have to resend it. You can lie (or not lie) depending on how you view it, and say you never got the item, and Amazon or Half.com will make him 're-send' it.
If the seller did put tracking, you're pretty much out of luck. Since it only costs $.65 to put tracking on a piece of mail, the chances aren't in your favor. I would just beg the seller to re-send it, tell them you will put REALLY GOOD feedback for them, and, of course, offer to pay the costs of re-shipping.
The really bad news is that Media Mail is HELLA slow. I think it's advertised as standard 2-8 days, but Half.com allows up to 14 days before you can file a claim on items shipped via Media Mail. Since most people only get the Delivery Confirmation for $.65 (and not "real" tracking; just shows attempted or actual delivery), it's real hard to know exactly where the package is.
Of course, if the seller didn't use Media Mail, disregard most of the above. Whatever method he used, just check to see if he has tracking info, and go from there.

Thanks for the replies, UPS/USPS has told me that the packages were being held at their warehouse place nearby and will be redelivered soon so hopefully everything turns out alright.
