I first tasted beer in a b-day party about a few years ago when I was 15, but my face got all red after a mouthful so I switched to coke. But today in my friend's brother's wedding, one guy in my table replaced my coke with beer with an evil smile on his face, and I was like "whatever, not like I will die or anything, it's just liquid". It went much better than expected, after about 2 glasses I was still not drunk, though the need to go to the bathroom was really intense. After the party was over I felt a little dizzy, but not at all "insane". I think I drank a total of about 3 glasses. Now that I'm home, my head is aching. When I looked in the mirror my face was red. I still prefer coke, beer is kinda tasteless and a bit bitter. I don't know how people can drink so much of it. really.
edit: I wanted to go to the bathroom to pee, not to puke!

Taste around. Find a beer you like. Also, remember to drink about as much water as you've drunk beer. Perhaps even more. I didn't remember to drink enough water, and today I'm dead tired :-P
|
It will come with time, and if you ever feel real sick just disappear for a bit and use the toilet to puke it out. Try not to puke in front of people, and NEVER puke on people and NEVER puke in front of girls (especially attractive girls). GL HF

You don't have to drink as much water as beer and of course you should not drink so much that you have to puke. Although until you know how you feel when you should stop drinking it might still happen
If you get used to it beer just tastes very good
|
Beer is an acquired taste you learn to love as you grow older.
|
Drink it, it's good for you.
|
Gonna take a bit of experience to know how you feel when you've had enough. Beer is easier because it has a lower proof but be slower with liquors, you can feel totally fine and down a ton of liquor and then get sick because it takes awhile for the alcohol to hit you.

Try mixing rum with your coke next time. I personally don't like beer that much either. I prefer hard liquor or wine.
|
you dont have to drink if you dont want. its your personal preference. noone respectable will think lesser of you for choosing not to drink. some people find it impressive. its your choice, dont drink because you feel like its something that everyone does.
|
Beer is not for everyone, trust me on this one. I've drinken many a beer in my life, but I would prefer a nice cold soda over a beer. Just me though!
|
Never puked from alcohol, even after like 2-3 bottles and some glasses of hard liquor. Tho I felt like dying the next day.

I didn't say beer can't taste good. After you're used to it, it will. That doesn't mean it normally tastes good. No one is naturally drawn to beer for the taste until they've already learned to put up with it.

oh yeah, the difference between a beersh/horse piss and actual good beer with thick full flavor is huge. It will never taste like coke... cuz u know.... coke is like... crack... but, it does become an enjoyable drink. As for OP, usually the redness from a slight amount of alcohol is from the lack of an enzyme? I think... so it makes u all red and stuff... But hey, tolerance is built up, so drink up son!!!
|
You have to start early with beer :p
My first beer was when I was 12-13 I think (my first "party" :p) Then again everybody starts drinking early here :p Now that I'm in college, man... Drinks up lol

Beer is so delicious yet so versatile in its usage. You can enjoy it casually for lunch or get drunk by consuming plenty of beer. Additionally, there are a lot of different beers, like wheat beer, lager, pilsner etc. it is just a magic and wonderful world of awesome.
If you don't like beer, it is your loss. :D
|
Theres no reason beer cant taste good when you first try it.
|
I will probably never try beer or any alcoholic drinks because they might ruin my liver
|
I don't lust for beer as much as I used to, but when I do it has to be strictly Asahi or Corona :>

Most people have a natural aversion to bitterness, which needs to be overcome over time by sensory overload, or may never be overcome. It's easier to overcome (or not detect at all) if you're a non-taster, which is like 20% of the population.

Beer's similar to bitter/spicey/pungent foods that don't seem naturally tasty at first but become delicious to some people over time. Like (dark) chocolate, coffee, kimchi, etc... You may end up never liking it but it's worth a shot to keep trying.
|
You get more and more used to it.
And cocaine is a nice drug
|
Not sure how much you drank or how drunk you got but if you got very drunk by drinking a little you should be careful if youre asian. (I presume you are since you have vietnam tag) I have several friends who can't drink at all or get drunk after just a beer. If you ask me they shouldnt be drinking at all because of the dangers involved.
|
Am I the only one that actually likes the taste of beer? I don't go out and get drunk, but I've had it. Never really disliked it, though it depended on the brand.
|
If you flush red then I dont think you can drink alot. Just try a little to know the taste and not to be lost during parties.

The truth is you shouldn't even be reading this thread. You don't need to be psyching yourself out with all this marginal advice on what to do / avoid / concentrate on.
Just be a kid and live your life.
I'm not saying you even read this, but there seems to be this stigma on TL that everyone requires this elaborate "build order" to accomplish the most mundane of tasks.

So true. But when I went to Whitewater for a frisbee tournament, all you guys had was cheese broccoli soup, and we got fantastically full beer imported from California.

Beer is empty calories. Not everyone likes it. And I do think for the most part it's an acquired taste. I mean how many people who try it for the first time actually liked it then?
|
Beer was an acquired taste for me too, even now I don't really like it but it's easily drinkable and no longer tastes bad at all. I recommend avoiding any cider that's made out of onions like the plague, that stuff is a truly horrible drink.

bitterness is gross but you get over it. I drink to get buzzed/drunk personally. I used to drink exclusively liquor when I first started drinking but I went through that phase.....god it was sick . Liquor disgusts me now so Id much rather drink beer to get drunk and the hangover isnt nearly as bad for me.
|
I think it's because of my age but I still find beer bitter, no matter how many times I try it. :p

That's because the brewery was founded by German monks way back.
|
I guess it all depends on
A) The time B) The place C) The beer
I only drink beer in the late afternoon/evening time or at a gathering of some type. But the kind of beer is huge imo. I personally only drink certain beers with certain meals. Like having MGD with a steak is good, or Pacifico with a taco is good. But everyone is diffirent, and its def an acquired taste, I used to hate it growing up. Now I love it when its (as Day[9] would say) appropriately timed.

Ahh yes. Kinda lame how it only comes out during certain times of the year.

beer tastes like shit. You should stick with rum and coke like me it tastes almost exactly like vanilla coke.
|
I used to hate beer. Now i love it. Its an acquired taste for most people. Took me about 9 months of college to suddenly start loving it, used to cringe everytime i drank it. Then again i also love vodka now from drinking it so much freshman year. Not that it tastes good, but i can tolerate it very easy compared to liquors like rum and gin. P.S. why so many lightweights on TL? I just read that blog about someone drinking an "entire" 6 pack
|
Why spend money on beer when soda is cheaper and will only get ya diabetes!

Because you have to train yourself, hasn't anyone seen the movie "Beerfest"? :D

You have to get used to beer. Or at least I had to. But now it feels tasty (if it is not some awfully cheap shit). A little hint: When drinking alcohol, drink a lot of water along with it. Normally, this will prevent any bad hangovers.

I don't need to see that movie, I live in Germany. We have more than enough "Beerfest"s when people start drinking before noon and finish sometime late in the night. And this goes on for a week...

That does not prove anything, younger people have diferent taste then older ones. Most people liked sweets much more when they were younger. Many people try foods that they didn't like as a kid, and find out that they like them now.
I liked dark coffee without sugar since my first cup. I was about 17 then. As for beer I liked the sweeter ones when I was younger but with time I had moved to bitter ones as my taste had changed.

I have never not liked coffee, and I started off with decaf as a kid.

Bad beers taste insipid and disgusting; good beers often have a very strong and characteristic aroma, it's nothing short of delicious.
Try smoked beer if you haven't already.
|
Good types of beer are rare in the world. Don't drink any of the big American O Imports, because factory brewing rapes flavor. Start with a lighter Ale, make sure it's of good local repute (microbrewed). After a while, you can move up to the darker beers, lagers and whatnot. These have a stronger, thicker flavor and often don't taste very bitter at all, but they do overpower a lot of people's tastebuds.

I didn't like beer at first either. It's an acquired taste, really. Some days, especially hot summer ones, it's nice to have a cold beer after a hard days work, and it tastes amazing. I do like my aged scotch too.

Red wine tastes better than beer.
|
My face turns red after the very first sip of beer (or other liquor).
But it takes a while for be to get drunk.
Though I personally don't like beer. The gassyness(?) is pure evil. Hard liquor is much better imo :3
