Yeah a coworker also told me Shaolin temple sucks :/ I didn't go but I hardly had any time for it anyway.
My work took longer than expected so I only left Zhengzhou yesterday instead of last sunday. I'm now in Beijing, in a small house in a Hutong that I rented for two weeks, just dropped my luggage there yesterday.
No clue what I'm going to do next. Either stay there in BJ or hop on a plane and go wherever for like 3-4 days. Anyway right now eating sounds like a good option since its 1pm and I'm hungry as fuck. Gongbaojiding + jiaozi here I come. :p
If there's any fellow TLnetter in BJ drop me a pm and let's drink a beer!

Ok fuck this I'm hitting Chongqing and/or Chengdu tomorrow. :p
Probably Chongqing first for a few days, then Chengdu, then back to BJ until I leave (for Sweden! Northern Sweden! Omg. Will be my first time there. Happy as fuck.)

I went to Shaolin Temple six months ago. It was boring as hell. You don't see the real monks. Just little kids sent there by their parents to train to become a tourist performer. The real badasses stay hidden in their temple behind the school.
Like others have said, Sichuan province fking rocks. Go see the pandas man. Go eat hotpot. Go enjoy Sichuan's moist warm weather (if you like humidity). I love that area.
Not a fan of N. China. The air quality is usually quite poor and it's bitter cold by this time of year. N. CHinese dumplings = win though.
I also like Xi'An for the muslim food and crazy dumpling banquets they got there, but if you plan to spend a week I'd rather go to Chengdu or Chongqing. More to do there. PANDAS!
