Hello TL,
I am in need of more help. I have a huge procrastination problem. I leave everything off till the last minute, and then I end up never doing it in the first place. This has been happenning ever since I was little. I would always say, "I will (insert task) later." Now being in gr 11, the next two years are going to be very hectic for me, and I need to be able to keep up. It doesnt matter if I want to hang up my clothes, excercise, work on projects, bathe etc... Even if I am doing something that I enjoy, for example bw, I will say "ugh i dont feel like microing" or "meh ill expo later." Then I will zone out and start to think about many other things. for example, there is always half of a song playing in my head when i am doing math work, or ill think about sleeping during a bw game.
Has anyone here over come extreme procrastination? Please help. I have been thinking on my own about this, and so far I cannot come up with anything specific enough to help me.

You lack willpower, that's all there is to it. If you really want to do something, you'll do it.

It does seem like you have an attention disorder. Attention can be forcussed through taking short breaks and working constantly in small bits. Just make sure you're not goofing off all the time. As for starcraft, I dunno because that requires attention for very long periods of time.

gtfo the computer and find somewhere to study that has zero distractions. if you keep studying there you'll start to connect that place with actual focusing on work and it'll increase your productivity loads, as opposed to sitting on the computer which you probably link bw and slacking off to. of course this means if you have a paper you gotta type up you're screwed
by the way if you are in any way intelligent at all you can continue to procrastinate all of grade 12 and probably first year of university though i wouldn't recommend it

Posting about a procrastination problem on TL is a form of procrastination! There are no quick fixes for your attention span, you just have to steel yourself, get up, and do what needs to be done. That and adderall.

I've been putting shit off the last minute all my life and I'll be going into my third year of university. But I like working under pressure and I do always get it done, which is a bit worse than your situation I suppose. I would agree with the advice being like shut off comp/tv/cellphone etc so you can actually get stuff done. Isolation really does help cause when it's the only thing infront of you you're like 'huh well i GUESS i can do it since it's the only thing to do here'

i'm starting one right now at 1am, it's due tomorrow and i'm responding to this blog, so there's your answer. what i used to do when things were really urgent was go to my router settings and disable internet for a couple hours (assuming it's not a research essay or anything) then go to my study place with my laptop and try to work something out.

I definitely like the idea of working in a place with no distractions When you're in highschool I don't know how many places there are like that though..
And really, highschool is honestly so easy. Once you put some effort into it you'll see..

You're 16 and not a girl, having procrastinating problems is fairly common. I've had my share of problems with procrastination the easiest solution is right under your nose: your will. If you want to do something, do it and do it now.
The minute you start to question your willpower, that's the minute your going to have doubts and blatantly reject any type of advice or criticism under the premise that you don't have a strong will.
And stop humping the computer, it's not healthy and not helping you to get rid of distractions.

I'm procrastinating as we speak.

Yeah, I overcame my procrastination pretty easily, i'll do a write up some time in the future, kinda lazy atm though.

the solution to not procrastinating is procrastinating... one day you will realize the time spent on delaying has amounted to big gaps in your life and when you realize that, you will stop
so just keep doing what your doing

I myself am still searching for the willpower to get things done. I keep telling myself "What I can do today, I can probably do tomorrow".

Unfortunately, lots of people only learn how to stop procrastinating through its consequences.

Alright, and what about my concentration problem. It's really bugging me. When I was doing steller in school I had this problem.

You are a low level human, probably will get shifted to the bottom of the stack eventually if you keep it up.
Just saying
|
I have been having the same problem ever since elementary school lols. Too bad procrastination doesn't work too well in college. I got away with procrastination in High school somehow hahaha.
Question: How does one deal with distraction/procrastination when you have to use the internet to write your paper or study? Case in point, right now I am on TL instead of writing my paper.

You don't, and wind up losing tons of sleep

I got a J.D. being a huge procrastinator. Not recommended at all. I wish I had broken my habit a long time ago, but now I'm 26 and hopeless.

Dude, I have the exact same problem, concentration problem included. I really want to pass my exams this semester though, so I will do whatever I can to overcome this condition. I will definitely try learning in short but frequented shifts as someone suggested above. Let's just both of us remember this thread and return a few weeks later to report on our progress of "not procrastinating".
PS. I deleted all my computer games, but still there's the internet so... Damn it, it feels like you have to fight for every single minute you want to spend doing something useful. The feeling actually resembles some kind of addiction or illness, I.. just... have to procrastinate...
PS2: I have been doing this for years now, and even though I know it has really bad consequences, I still keep on doing it.

If you wait till the last minute to do something, then it takes only one minute to do ^^

By hand.
Actually, I find that disconnecting from the internet helps...so I'll either go somewhere I don't have internet access, or I'll disable my wireless connection.
