Anyone play this game, I remember following it about three years ago and since it's development people called it all sorts of things from Vaporware, to the WoW Killer. Well it launched this year and like Ultima Online had a somewhat disastrous launch, if that is what is considered. From having a bad launch to Eurogamer giving it a bullshit review I stumbled upon a MMORPG.com interview about Darkfall's second expansion being released on December 4th, and the interview got me thinking maybe I should give this game a try. And the Siege videos on YouTube look cool, only downside I see is a lot of blue balls flying all over the place. On gaming forums such as the MMORPG.com website players saying the game has improved a ton and I hope it is true for what the producer has said:
MMORPG.com: Give us a status on Darkfall. How has the game been doing in recent months?
Tasos Flambouras: Our team is actually growing ever since Darkfall launched and there's even more work being done on the game right now than there was back then. This isn't usually the case with most MMOs but we are totally committed to realizing Darkfall's full potential and that won’t happen by decreasing the size of our team. While others are firing developers, we've been hiring. We've outgrown our second office building and we're moving at the end of this week to a larger third building in order to support our growth. We’ve been working on improving our communication with our players and our community and we’ve been watching very carefully what the players have been doing and what they’ve been talking about, taking their suggestions and recommendations and we’re trying to be constantly on the ball with everything, fixing things, making improvements, doing everything we possibly can to making this game better. Every aspect of the game has seen massive improvements, we're about to launch our second free expansion, which comes after many more expansion-size content patches and this is just the beginning. We’re very excited about being part of Darkfall, we’ve been throwing everything back into the game, and we’re just going all out to make it the best game it can possibly be.
The results of all this hard work are rewarding for the players, for the game, and for us: During a very rough time for MMOs, Darkfall is actually growing. We have a lot of new players coming in, and a lot of returning players re-subscribing and we’re going to do everything in our power to see this trend continue. We’re grateful for this vote of confidence and we’re energized to step up our development efforts even further. Development has always been our number one focus leaving little room for anything else, but we're in the position now to also sustain a marketing and advertising campaign for the game.
i was really excited for this game, and i started reading the darkfall forums after it came out... yeah. the pretty shitty release made me completely forget about it. they had some good ideas though.
Played for a few months after release. The large idea behind it seemed great but the developers did have some huge failures. But mostly it's the long skill grind combined with the community playing it that ruined the game. 99% of the players we're constantly camping in their player cities macroing skills. The PvP itself was really fun though, especially combined with the hunting/chasing part of the landscape.
I tried it. The features it presents are very promising, but the launch of the game was utter fail. The graphics are crappy too for a MMO this new.
Didn't take me too long to leave, if I had to sum up the game in a few words: Lots of fun and exciting hardcore PvP ideas, but it failed massively in execution. Since day 1 the game had massive issues.
I played it shortly after launch, and as has been said: good ideas, poor execution. Then they tried to patch all the problems, and I assume that they only made it worse, because after I saw the patch notes, I stopped renewing my subscription.
darkfall... man i followed this for like 4 years until release and ofcourse bought it right away. what a disappointment the game lacked like 70% of the promised features on launch etc.. dunno if its gotten any better now.
same as some of the guys above, i tried it at launch after the game was hyped before, but yeah, it was as bad as it could be. One of the most failed game launches ever.
Good to see that they haven't given up on the game and are still developing thigns for it, so more of people started to play it. I wouldnt return to try it, but good look if you do.
I have to say as soon as I possibly can I am going to buy the game and try it out. The expansion that hits on the 4th is suppose to have a variety of changes, and updates. Besides that I have always felt it was better to support indie MMO's and the studios than ya know the massive commercial ones.
bumping this for the sole reason of asking if any people from TL still play Darkfall. I am myself an active EU1 player and play with a friend and are in a small scale pvp clan and having TONS of fun. Lately some patches came out and they were good. ALSO there is this upcoming patch everyone is looking forward to, it will make the map smaller and change the models of the chars and add tons of stuff.
so anyone still playing darkfall?
PS: anyone that has stopped playing with a mid level / vet account that he dont need can PM me to ask him something I like it would be great. thanx.
I used to play darkfall ALOT but there was no skill decay so eventually it turned into max chars casting spells everywhere. Melee wasn't as useful. New game looks ok but it's going to suffer the same problems of shitty siege mechanics and lagggggggg
