As many people are aware, Livestream has been one of the most important discoveries to date in the foreign Starcraft scene. To date, Teamliquid has over 100 user streams, with typically at least 1-2 online at any given time streaming either their games on Iccup or live Korean pro matches.

For people to stream FPVODs to the public en masse was simply unheard of before. Nowadays, we have access to watch some of the best foreigners stream their live games. Just a year ago, who would have imagined such a thing could happen?

However, for those who simply follow the Korean pro scene, Livestream has completely changed how we watch games. In the past, poor quality MMS links and streams off Pot Player and Daum Sports were relied heavily upon to watch OSL/MSL/PL games. But if those went down, everyone resorted to a select few who had working streams to live report in what we now call LR threads. Just over a year ago, we'd still see LR threads filled with people live reporting in detail what went on in game. As streams went down quite often, people simply read the LR thread for what went down in each match.

Nowadays, our LR threads are pretty much filled with posts such as "Oh, Bisu is winning, as he kills an expo" followed immediately by a post 2 minutes later saying "Oh, JD comes back and kills Bisu. GG". While the quality of LR threads has decreased, this can be somewhat attributed to live streaming, as everyone nowadays can simply watch what's going on for themselves. Whether or not this is a good thing is still up in the air. The jury's still out on this. At times, I miss the old LR threads, but I love being able to personally watch games live.

So I'd like to take this time to pay some tribute to the people that make this happen for the community, whether they stream their own games or Korean pro games. Streaming takes quite a lot of time and effort and often times causes computers to lag at times, so the effort of attempting to stream in game or dedicating a PC to stream OSL/MSL/PL while not being able to do much else is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I'd like to thank Rage for his kickass guide to Streaming on Mogulus (Now Livestream), as well as ret, nongmin, and all the other streamers who stream their own games. But lastly, I'd like to give a shoutout to those who stream PL/OSL/MSL. So I'd like to shoutout to Konadora (Your stream was the first I watched), TOP (Kickass quality streams), Kentor (Where would we be without Zeroboy?), Drivec (Saved our asses at WCG), Solin (Your chan is like home), and others I might have forgotten. Without you guys, the LR threads would be filled with people begging for streams.

I just feel like sometimes we need to give some credit to where it's due. So shoutout to all those who make our community such a kickass place to be!

****
God Bless

Agreed!
Livestream would be a great turning point in an essay about the history of foreigner starcraft.

Huge thanks to all streamers. Livestream (and similar) is the only thing that works on this crappy uni connection.

I thought this was going to be a tribute to Stargirls.

I personally think it's fantastic that so many people are streaming nowadays. Even though the quality's generally not as good as a VOD, nothing beats watching a live Starcraft game with a bunch of other fans (besides seeing ACE pull off a win). The OGN stream fails hard on my computer, so I for one am definitely glad you put in the time and effort to stream all these games. Thanks to all you guys.

Agreed completely!

It's just amazing the amount of Starcraft related things that are viewable now, literally nearly 24/7 there will be at least 1-2 people streaming (and on the very rare occasion there isn't you have on-demand). A big thank you to all the streamers, whether it's PL/MSL/OSL or just yourself playing, thank you so much!

I will say that user streams has helped me improve my play a lot, especially as we can see how high level players play and learn from them. Has been a great asset, instead of just reading up on what I should do, I get a clearer picture of how to do it.

So true, i remember times not long ago when Flash was playing in MSL and everyone was unable to watch!! People should be really thankful for these streams, as there is nothing worse than your favourite player kicking ass and u being able only to f5 LR thread.

Huge thanks to all the streamers!

I think however following MSL/OSL/PL in 2007/2008 was way easier - the Daum Pot player ran as smooth as silk. The koreans are trying to cut us out but we fight back

Pot Player was nice, but when channels filled, it was a pain in the ass to get in. Plus, with livestream it's simply one url/one click and voila there's a stream for you to watch.

Yep, double thanks to the streamers, and that includes you Roffles. But also, some of the semi-pros that take time to stream games, like lzgamer, ret, oystein, nongminzerg, and so many more.

Oh, and Konadora, you need to commentate more. It was always fun listening to the Singaporean guy commentate in English over the annoying Chinese commentators. Oh, I miss those days.
