so i have a very odd mole on one of my toes. It's very small and flat and doesn't bother me, but its shaped like a triangle, came about recently, is blacker than my other moles, and I think may have grown in size over the past six months. After reading this blog, I've been bugging out that it's melanoma and want to get it checked out. Unfortunately, there aren't very many dermatologists around here, and the hospital appointment's earliest opening is January 4th. I've read that the stuff can spread very quickly, so I want to get it looked out ASAP, but the earliest I can get it looked at is when I get back. I want to get it looked at so I don't bug out about it during finals week (which is coming up), so what should I do?
a) I can go to the Student medical center. However, the people there are of rather questionable quality. I do have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday, though, just in case they do decide to refer me or whatnot.
b) I can wait until I get back, which is a month. Usually cancer doesn't spread that quickly, but again, its mostly about the peace of mind.
c) I can go downtown and look for a dermatologist there. However, the chance that I'll find one is low, and I don't have too much time to spend on on the commute (hour each way) to get to the doctor.

I had a mole on my foot about a year and a half ago that suddenly appeared and got larger and black. Turns out it was some chemical reaction I had to something but I forgot what now, but it was not melanoma and I was fine.
I would STILL get it checked out though and despite how quickly it spreads, it's fairly treatable. You'll be fine waiting a month or so. If it IS melanoma.

Go to a GP and ask him/her to take a biopsy, and send it to a lab/dermatologist for testing.

A month shouldn't be that bad.
You do know the ABCD's of melanoma, yes?
If you're that worried you should just go to the center regardless of the questionable people there.

You can go to your regular doctor or clinic and have them remove the mole. You do not need a dermatologist to remove it for testing. They will numb your foot and cut the mole out and send a sample of it to a lab for testing. If the results come back as cancer they will refer you to a dermatologist.
Your best bet is to go to your local hospital and inquire on how they deal with this situation. I don't think you will get any definitive answers here on TL.

But seriously, just go to the Student medical center and if they think its bad enough, they'll do testing on it. If they say its no big deal, however I would still go to a dermatologist
