I'm currently playing Median XL (used to play some Hell Unleashed), and from my experience, Median XL is better. Median XL has new Uber Quests, which are very hard, but give you great rewards. And it has all completely new and fun/innovative skills, while Hell Unleashed has the same (or close) old boring D2 skills. Median XL has a lot of other features that are just great.

Hell Unleashed is sick. Very hard sometimes. Well, I guess in multiplayer it might be easier, I didn't try it though. MXL gets you hooked up very easily though.

I'm playing MXL in multiplayer here and there, sometimes over hamachi, sometimes a friend comes over (I think there's a private server for MXL, but not sure). So if someone would like to play Median XL, send me a pm.

I've done like half or more Uber Quests.

To the OP, if you're kinda bored with plain old D2, try Median XL, hell even if you're not bored, try it.

one of the main problems with median xl though.. cuz i've played it.. is once you get to the highest and hardest bosses half of them just insta-kill you with special moves that negate any armor or weapons you possess.

that is just stupid.

and did i mention most of those bosses are immune to everything? yes, they're completely invulnerable. you have to wait and *hope* they drop an immunity for long enough to do some damage to them while they're blasting out insta-kill shots.

just not my opinion of a balanced game

yeah I know, beating every uber alone requires top gear and specific character builds. (but since I didn't finish all, I can't say for sure) that's why I did some ubers with my friend, it's easier with two different characters.

plus, it wouldn't be fun if all ubers were easy. but yeah, some are really really sick. xD

yes, all new skills, uberquests/uberlevels (this amazing :D), great new item/rune/jewels/gems system, different usage of stat points, etc.

plus, the creator of the mod is very active on the forum (great community) and he's an awesome guy. xD

did I mention that there's tons of references to SC in median xl? :D like, somewhere you can find invisible zakarum fanatics named "Dark Templar", some light plated boots called "Zealot Rush" and many many more, not to spoil it.

hmm, well, hell unleashed is a challenge. it's hard, the bosses regenerate if you go to town, die or don't hit them for 20 seconds. it's supposed to be a mp mod, but there's a sp version.

there's some nice cube recepies that are not in median xl, like custom coloring your gear. green/purple/yellow barbarian ftw!! :D

on the minus side, you can't buy town portal in single player (they only drop), in MP there is no town portal. dungeons are larger.

some new dungeons. skills are the same, but somewhat more balanced. there's new music, very very nice and atmospheric. a lot new monsters (more than median). somewhat changed effect of stats on dmg life etc. you can buy runes/gems. gems can be upgraded beyond perfect. new/changed items, new runewords. can craft some items.

that's about what I can remember.

If we can get a group of people willing to play Median XL, we should make a thread in Sports&Games and play together. I'd be up for playing regularly, few times a week on Open B.net (assuming it works on Open B.net) or Hamachi.

You can recover your "expired" characters you know...
Well at least for me it works every time.
You just have to select character as if it wasn't expired. IF your character name was not overwritten (i.e. nobody created a new character with a name identical to your expired character) then your character will be instantly recovered! This is how I got my characters back every time I re-install D2 (I'm on USEast) so if your character names are funky/contains guild tag/whatever, high chance you'll be able to get your characters back. Recovered characters from 2 years ago this way.

I will be back on starting tonight granted my characters will un-expire (per the just double click it method). Account name is (surprise surprise)

iamondback2. I think I have like 3-4 mule accounts too, hopefully I can remember all their names.

If my account is good to go we should do some grush'es and chaos runs for sure!
