Yay! It's that time of year again, and after being first introduced to this in thre years ago and failing, and being too lazy the two subsequent years, I've decided that I'll try to make some time and screw around with this this year.

I fully expect to fail miserably, but if I can produce a few thousand coherent words I'll be happy enough!

Anyone else embarking on this?

PS For those of you unfamiliar to this, NaNoWriMo is the National Novel Writing Month, the November of every year where you challenge yourself on a masochistic quest to spew out 50,000 words, which constitutes a novel! Check it out!

hmmmmm, do those guys rate the novel? or do they just see that you have so and so words? wat are the prizes? i wanna do this.

There's no prize, there's no one to tell you what's acceptable or not. It's just your own self-satisfaction at having written a full-fledged novel. If you fill up a word document with 50,000 "I"s, yes, that's a novel. But so what lol.

The point is that it probably won't be good, but just writing 50,000 words that are generally coherent is in and of itself an accomplishment. You do it for "fun."

Im so into it, will be my third attempt and first in a few years (did it in 2005 and raped its face thats right I FINISHED) then failed spectacularly in 2006, took two years off now im back. Hoping to win again.

Pretty interesting, never heard about this. i kinda just started typing stuff up when i saw this.

Two paragraphs in, i realized i only got to 200 or so words. Now i appreciate how hard it is to write a novel, not just how good various novels are.

I wanted to try to do this once, but then i realized how hard it is to come up with something both vaguely original, entertaining, and not composed of utter shit. It's like you have to pick two "Original, Entertaining, Not Terrible"

Anyways, as is stated on their page, the point of this is not to create a bestseller. It's simply to finish it - they even state, there is a 99.9% chance that 99.9% of your writing will be bad. But that's OK. Just the simple process of putting pen to paper (finger to keyboard?) for such a long time should help you with writing/entertaining yourself/making yourself suffer.

I'd personally encourage you all to try it. You don't have to finish, but at least give it a whirl. I kinda regretted not having time to do this (or even to start attempting it) the last couple of years. I'm still busy this year, but I'll still try. Whee.

Every year I tell myself that I'll try this, and every December 1st I look at the calendar and realize I haven't even started.

Well...that probably won't change, but for the sake of my pride I'm going to say that I'll try it.

I enjoyed doing it several years ago when a friend introduced me to it but haven't tried the last few years. Might well try this year. Would recommend it to anyone with the time to spare!

Hrm, looking at my notes, those ammount to 9k words alone. Maybe I'll give this a shot, if I feel like it. Too bad I'm loaded with work untill christmas though.

Essay to write today, so I won't be starting my novel until sometime later this week. I have vague plotlines lined out, but they were horribly last minute. I can already sense the fail that this novel will contain xD

it's definitely helpful to start outlining before November 1st, otherwise you're gonna have a harder time creating the plot and the words at the same time. by the way i find that this is a really nifty website for getting tons of writing done fast, i think it's something like 1600 words a day you need to write and with this site so you can do it in less than an hour here http://writeordie.drwicked.com/

with day two coming to a close, I totally feel underachieved, After not getting to do more than like 300 words sunday due to working 10 hours then had to open at 5:30am yesterday, I sit her ejust past midnight with a meager 3k words, which is roughly 400 words short of what i need for today.

Heres hoping i make up for it tommorrow.
