Get a job, yes. That really helped me make friends and it really forces you to be social with people. Maybe work at a subway or something like that, or be a waiter.

yeah, get a job where you're forced to interact with people. like in the mall or something. from there you can meet regulars and have better, and a bit more open convo with them over time. just be around people a lot, isuppose.

you seem to have a good grasp on what you need to do though. job, clubs, maybe hit up the night life?

I think joining something like a club may be the best idea.

Sometimes is hard to socialize when you don't have too many things in common with other people, thus not having something to talk about and that allows you to relate with others.

Having some activities in common with others gives you a solid base from which to jump start some friendships.

Go to a close bar and strike up conversation with the bartender, keep going and meet the regulars. Really just start talking to people, you're missing out.

When I first arrived at college, my first friends were those that went outside during class breaks for a smoke and started talking about the lameness of the class. I guess smoking has some benefits.

In the end, in your case, all you need is one good friend. Through him you'll get to know other people automatically and build a social circle really quickly.

Clubs are huge. If I wasn't in 1 of the clubs I am in now I would have about 50 less friends.

Also make sure its people you can be "yourself" around, no sense faking anything.

I discovered that being social is overrated.

I wasn't very social before, then I was, then I realized it's not what I really want, at least not with the kind of people I meet. I enjoy aloneness. I think.

join a dance school or a health club or a yoga club. good way to meet nice people, nice girls. if its ur first time at the health club, get a personal trainer until u know a bunch of people there

ohh man it sucks a lot... i was so isolated in my first 2 years of university, but i did it to myself... it messed up my head, so not worth it.

i got over it, but i wont be able to give you advice from my own experience- my solution was not general enough.

but i think social gatherings are not the best way to get friends or talk to ppl, it should be something where talking to people is only of secondary importance, it takes away the pressure.

im kind of in the same situation as you, im not very social and have to force myself to interact with people..i joined a soccer league in a sport/social club bcuz i wanted to get back to being more physically active as well, and it helped alot although im still not nearly as social as i should be. Im taking university atm and i miss my job not because i liked it, but because it allowed me to interact with more with people on a regular basis

Honestly, I'd say don't be afraid to meet friends nearby through online means. It's pretty common nowadays, more-so than one would think.

i dont understand how asking a forum how to socialize will help you man. THE INTERNET IS NOT REAL LIFE stop asking for advice and learn something on your own.. Chances are you are a major introvert so learn an instrument or something.

Meet people through hobbies or interests. Clubs, dates, parties and stuff will develop from there. The net's great since you can probably just google your local area and whatever hobby you prefer, and find some social hobby gatherings which revolve around it.
