It took me like 40 minutes to put in my contacts the first time. I simply could not do it. But I struggled through it and within a few days it became bearable.
While you're learning, scrub down your hands completely and do not touch anything other than contacts until you are done. If you don't, and you handle them too much, it'll sting your eye which will make it that much harder.
Also make sure your contact is not inside out, yes there is a right and wrong way out.
Once you are over that initial hump, it is no big deal. Certainly beats glasses, that's for sure.

your eyes need time to adjust, after awhile you'll be able to do it easily.

1)wet contacts with solution
2) wet finger with solution
3) shake off excess from both
4) balance contact on the pad of your finger ( i find using the very tip of my finger more difficult)
5) make sure contact is in proper position. Soft lenses can flip "inside-out" and then will irritate/bug/hurt the hell out of your eye if they are not the right way. Edges of the lens should appear to curve inward or not at all; if they flare out, flip the lens inside out and look at it again. Toric lenses (if you have them, if not disregard) are asymmetrical, so putting them in your eye the wrong way will reduce vision clarity until gravity eventually pulls it into proper position in your eye.
6) raise contact to eye and look up (not with your head/neck, your eyes). Place contact on your eye just below your pupil and lightly press. Wait to feel adhesion as it sucks onto your eyeball.
7) look down (sometimes side to side helps) and shift your eyes around BEFORE blinking, to seat and position the contact.
8) now blink to clear debris and clear vision. Hooray you made it!

Try not using a mirror. It may be easier if you just use your mind's eye. Also, this allows you to defocus, which makes your eyes relax.

you need to not be sleepy. usually i always take a shower before putting my contacts on. Remember to put the right side. you should be able to read the 123. for me i always have to use a mirror to do it. What i do is i always look up when i put it in .and then i look down and then close my eyes and blink a few time.
when i take my contact lense off. I dont know if its a wrong thing to do but i just move them to the center of my face to the nose direction. of course this will bend the contact but idk it comes out pretty easy.

I personally wear night&day contacts that I leave in for 3-5 weeks and only take them out to clean them if they are getting dirty, which cuts down on time I have to invest to wear contacts.
are these safe? night and day contacts that you remove every 3-5weeks?

The trick isn't technically to look down, but to look where ever you put your contact on your eye (cause it sits only on over your iris). How I started out:
1. Pull eylids, place on finger ect. 2. Put contact on eye 3. Move your finger around, while maintaing contact to get out air bubbles 4. Look at your finger, puts your lens over your iris 5. Blink slowly 6. Tada, -if it hurts/ doesn't stay on it is inside out, take out flip and repeat

takes me like 5 seconds top
you'll get used to it

I've heard of people who wear their contacts for long periods, weeks or months. It seems like it doesn't turn out very well. After a while the contacts seal to your eyeballs, and it becomes a real chore to get them out without scraping your eye out. You can even get an infection underneath it. I knew one guy that did permanent damage to his eye due to that.
Your eyesight is too precious to risk. It takes 5 seconds to pop them in and out per day.
