Appetizers: My Trip to Japan

I'll soon be leaving to Japan for a 19 day stay. A friend in Nagoya, to whom i'm very gracious to, is allowing me to take refuge at his place during this time period.

To preface this blog entry, I'm a new student to the Japanese language and a quite the Anime/Manga nerd. So this will be an excellent experience for me. I've been to a lot of other Southeast Asian countries (I'm half Thai/Half Central American) but have not yet been to Japan or South Korea.

Being someone who is into creative arts I wanted to create this blog and serve it as a Photograph dump with some comments for curious people.

That being said, I enjoy taking pictures and I surely have my own list of things I want to do, but i'm also looking for suggestions on great places to take photographs. I'm also up for any other things that should be counted as a "must do". So how about it, do the gentle loving people of TeamLiquid have any helpful suggestions on places to go?

You should buy a JR rail pass and just take the shinkansen to Tokyo whenever. It should be around 1 hr iirc.

oops 1.5 hrs from nagoya to shinagawa

I went to Japan myself five or so years ago, to Osaka to meet a friend who was studying there. We went to Kyoto and Nara, which are somewhat relevant for you, I suppose, as they should be reachable if you're willing to train a little.

Anyhow, Kyoto's got the castle, of course, which is pretty awesome. Nara's got a lot of shinto- and buddhist-temples, and is a cool place to visit if you're into that kinda thing. Aside from that though, I can't help you much - spent a lot of time in various karaoke box-places rather than sightseeing during my stay.

I am really jealous! Have a fun & safe trip my friend.
Also post pictures on your vacation. I wish to visit Japan one day.

Oh, I envy you. I'm taking Japanese as a language in college now which was influenced by Anime/Manga too

sorry i can't really tell you anything about nagoya but i do agree with cambium about buying a jr pass. i think that you have to buy them from outside the country because they are meant for foreigners so i would get on that asap if you plan on travelling within japan (not just staying in nagoya).
