Most operating systems are free if obtained by questionably legal methods... Ubuntu Linux would be a good shot to throw on there, its fairly user friendly. If you're not really comfortable with Linux, just download a copy of pirated Windows XP to try out. Since its a new computer, I assume you have the recovery cd? The troubleshooting method that I would do is: 1) Reinstall a fresh copy of Windows 7 to see if its a software issue 2) If that doesn't work, install Windows XP, but make sure you have all the drivers beforehand, so you can get online and running right away. If that still doesn't work, then its most likely a hardware issue, and you'll have to swap out things, or take it in to a computer repair shop if you don't have the expertise. I thought it was a driver issue but I went to the websites of all my hardware manufacturers and downloaded each current file for my operating system (Windows 7). The only one that I don't have up-to-date is my motherboard/processor one (Fuck if I remember which, it came with a CD and when I put it in it says only WinXP then freezes). But I am noticing more and more that the more activity I do on my computer the more likely it is to freeze. However, I have more than enough ram and the computer isn't even close to overheating so I dunno. On the plus side I found a cool website though: http://www.boys-island.net/ | ||

New drivers don't always mean compatible/working drivers. In safe mode you can stop a lot of processes (I believe you can control this in msconfig) so if there is a change in your computer performance then it's easier to identify problems. It's also better to run virus scans in safe mode. | ||
