I've been having some trouble with my headset. A couple of months ago i developed a bad habit of chewing on the wire of the headset whenever battles started to get tough. Now, i think because of this, its messed up. Whenever i use it, i only have sound in one ear. I guess this is because of a loose connection, as i can tie some knots on the wire, and i'l get the sound in the other ear as well. However, sometimes the sound goes out, and i have to readjust those knots on the wire to get the sound back. Furthermore, the microphone doesn't work anymore either, no matter how much i try to fix that. Anyone have an idea what i can do about this? I have absolutely no experience in this, but i was thinking perhaps the part of the wire where there's a loose connection can be cut off or something and the wire can be put back together again. Your thoughts?

(furthermore, i don't chew on my wire anymore, however wierd it may sound to do something like that)

If you've chewed through the wires on your headset, you can theoretically fix it up with some leet electrical wiring skills, but you're better off tossing it and getting a new one.

Problem is right now, money is short. I'd rather not get a new headset. I just bought it a few months ago.

My headphones had the same problem because i was bending the shit out of the wire. Had to get a new pair.

Cut the damaged area out, strip the insulation, connect like wires securely, wrap in electrical tape.

I actually have no idea about this specifically, but because they are just wires, logic tells me if there is a solid connection throughout it will work properly.

If the break is somewhere in the middle of the wire, and not near the ends, I see no problem with cutting the broken part off, soldering the wires together and patching it all up with electrical tape. Just make sure you treat it nicely from now on cause the solder will make it really easy to break again.

it will
I've done this before.just find where the short occurs (by bending it - or in this case at the knots) cut it, and tape it as said above. The main problem is making sure its a strong enough connection so that pulling lightly on it doesnt short it out again

I've never done this with headphones but I have repaired 2 cell phone chargers and 1 wii component cable due to a puppy who like to chew on everything...

cut out the damaged area, get some wire strippers.. or carefully use a knife and cut off the plastic insulation.. there is going to be more then one wire inside.. separate all the different wires. do the same thing for the other side.

Now, you can just twist the matching wires together and wrap with electrical tape.

Good luck!

I think I'l try this. I know someone who is really good with a soldering iron and eletrical stuff generally, i guess im just too scared of messing things up even more, so i'l ask him if he can do it. Thanks again!

Out of curiosity, what headset is it? Also, maybe you can return it under warranty. Sennheiser has a 2 year warranty period, I think, which is great.
