Its fine people change too. When I was young I remember I cried so hard when my mom read me stories that were sad, but now just couple month ago I didn't even feel much when my grandfather passed away. I guess partially because we were never THAT close. Although I am pretty sure I would cry if my cat died.

well, for my part, my 13 years old cat died about hmmm two years ago. I actually came home from college and my mom was crying near the sink so I was wondering wtf was up. walked up to her and it took me like 4 minutes to understand that she had went to the vet earlier and had her euthanized.

I never cried or anything, although I must say it created a (small) void in my life (the last few years I had completely domesticated her when she had spent most of her life as a pretty independent cat) and sometimes I think about her.

so I can relate to how you feel somehow. I don't see how crying would change things anyways

So...what were your cats named?

PS: I wasn't very emotional either when my dad called me about our dog - she lived a long, comfortable life, hell she lived longer than some african children I get sad when I look at the photos nowadays though, she gave us so much joy.

my dog is 17 years old. I dont really know how i am going to be, but i will miss him for sure. It is sad, but you know--- you could get used to it too. I have lost many people, like two childhood friends, some relatives, some not so close friends in many situations. Sometimes i cry, sometimes i dont... and its not because of the relationship, is most because of the atmosphere or the mood.

I think the only thing that would make me think something is wrong with you is that you open a thread asking if something is wrong with you then fill it with things that should indicate absolutely nothing is wrong with you.
people normally don't feel over the top sad when they lose a lifelong pet, some people react more and some less but it's pretty normal (and very sound) not to break down over the loss of a pet.

One of the main reasons people cry in games and sad movies is because the music gets to you! Music is powerful stuff man.

I've lost pets before, but my mother rehabilitates injured and sick animals (wild and domestic) so I've become accustomed to the fact that many of them won't make it.

However, I do have a dog of my own and I know I would be devastated if anything were to happen to him. I love that dog. He chills next to me while I game and everything lol.

There's nothing wrong with that, some people just get more attached with their pets

Is that weird? I'm not very emotional, but even I've shed a man tear during a really powerful movie, and this one other time when I was playing this one, really sad video game 0_o

(the game was Shadow of the Colossus, please don't read the spoiler if you plan on playing this game, which you should -- i cannot stress that enough)

that is pretty bad though haha

Real question is: what is wrong and what is right. Most things are somewhere in between.
It´s something you´ll never get an easy answer to as everything is relative.

i was expecting more gross close up pictures of nasty skin afflictions / embarrassing details on sexual organs / surgery pictures.

I am disappointed.

One of my teenage friends died several years ago. When I heard about it I thought it was a joke and people were all just fucking with me. The next day everyone was bawling in the car about it and I realized it was real. I still didn't feel sad or anything, I don't know why. Same thing when my grandpa died a few years later. I think the only way I would possibly cry is if my mom died.

I think a lot of it has to do with not even knowing what death really is. People are born and die all the time. Everything has to die eventually. For all I know they just cease to exist the same way they were before they were born. So what difference does it make? Life is pretty pointless and insignificant when you really look at the grand scheme of it all. So the only way a death would affect me is from a really close bond and something that alters my life drastically. Sounds kind of selfish but ultimately, everything you do is selfish (even if you give away something, you receive the satisfaction of it, etc.)
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

I had problems with my emotions when I was younger - for a long time I could not cry, to the point I was scared that one day one of my relatives would pass on and I wouldnt be able to manage any emotional response. It was never an overriding concern, but sometimes I would see others tear up and wonder why I did not.

i think it has a lot to do with how we process information. Some of us might see something tragic in a film and go "thats...so...horrible..." and breakdown, others go "pffft...lame acting!". Perhaps some of us are trying to be too macho - "crying is for girls" was a common attitude held by my friends during my youth.

As we get older we realise that crying and responses arent a sign of weakness, they are just a legitimate response. Its part of what makes us who we are, whether w have them or not.

In your situation, I wouldnt worry about it overly much. You have reflected on the passings, and you know something is missing - it isnt really like you do not care at all. Growing up can be difficult, our emotions can be mixed and hard to understand. Your doing find buddy, dont worry!

ps. I have since cried, I broke down in a movie called 'Elegy' earlier this year with my gf...the movie didnt really warrant it, but i suppose we dont alwyas choose our moments.

Your grandmother's death wasn't accompanied by heart string music, so no. Also, dying in old age is kind of a normal natural thing. It's only when it seems too soon, or maybe you still had things you needed to do with them.

A pet is a pet. To anyone who has a properly trained pet, it has to be. They're not allowed to think they're equals or they get disobedient. So yeah, if your pets only purpose of being was to be cute and have a pat here and there, it doesn't really matter that much.

I think only the really overt attention whores try to make every death in their life seem like the worst thing in the world. Partly because it'd be rude to say "what the hell... there is no reason for you to be that sad, retard" and partly because they feel like they're getting to live out that really sad scene in one of their favourite movies. It's all crap though. There's not many people I'd cry for and I'm way and above the norm in terms of emotional sensitivity.

It's the music indeed. I get very sad/emotional when I hear the "I'm willing to fight" song they use for the UFC commercials =/
