I think you have a lot of great qualities and that seeing a counsellor is doing you good.
I think she was trying to soften the blow... but failed miserably. I hate it when people try to do this when it's quite obvious it won't work.

More like, don't share things that will make you come off as needy before you're dating. I've seen a psychologist at different points throughout my life, but it's certainly not the kind of thing I would share with someone who isn't a close friend...and that certainly doesn't seem to be the case here.
