My friend and myself are going to spending some time in Sweden within the coming months and I would like to know all about the country. I already started teaching myself Swedish. Hur år låget?

1. How is the public transportation? It's impossible to live in the United goddamn States of America without a car and I hate it. If I get into a wreck (and I've been in a few) then I can't go out and do anything. Literally.

2. How is the internet? I heard from some Scandinavians that Sweden has the best internet in Europe. I don't really care, as long as it's broadband, I'm just curious.

3. Exactly how expensive is Sweden as far as comfortable living is concerned? I am not a picky eater, I don't buy many tech-related gadgets, and I don't generally waste money. I'm not the most financially responsible person who has ever lived, but I consider my judgement to be pretty good.

4. Are LANs/internet cafes popular? Would anyone want to meet?

Something about Swedish females. And Im sure their internet is wayyyyy cheaper and better than the crappy service they offer in the States.

Public transportation and internet are both really good in Scandinavia, as a general rule.

Sweden is probably the cheapest of the scandinavian countries (except for alcohol) but it's still more expensive than it is in the states. You shouldn't be bothered much by it though. Fastfood is notably more expensive and going out to eat is not nearly as common as it is in America.

Small LAN parties happen, but I wouldn't say that internet cafes are particularly 'popular'. I haven't used one for gaming purposes since I was 14 (21 now).

Scandinavia is quite advanced (still miles behind USA) compared to the rest of the world, and even compared to a lot of Europe. Most of all though, we're chill, trusting and have fucking hot women.

1. If your coming to the major cities like Stockholm or Göteborg, public transportation is great. Simple and efficient. You can reach pretty much anything with busses and subways.

2. Internet is great yeah. I have 100mbps that is included in rent of our house.

3. Depends where you gonna live. The deeper in the city, the more expensive things usually get. Subway / Bus tickets aren't that expensive, but if your staying for a long period of time, (and plan on travelling a lot) I suggest getting a card. You can find stores like Willy's that are really cheap and can save you a lot of in your basic living expenses. So yeah, overall it's not really expensive.

4. There's plenty of them in Stockholm, been to many of those. (Skillz, Inferno, just to throw some names.) Oh and their usually located in very convient places close to subways.

Beater: How do you think the USA is miles ahead of Scandinavia, in your opinion? I'm just curious.

NoNFactor: Thanks, that all sounds wonderful, exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Both. (Well, actually, if you want to specifically refer to the people of the ethnic group, then they'd be Swedes).

Everyone is talking about the girls, but I cannot attract a female to save my fucking life, so I'm not really interested in what Swedish women look like. The food looks good, though.

1. Transport is really really good, as stated, if you live in a bigger city there is absolutely no need for a car.

2. The internet will be good enough We dont have any monthly caps on the internet or anything and the speed should be comparable to the on in the USA.

3. I dont think Sweden is much more expensive than the USA, probably just the alcohol. Tell us how much a big mac costs in the USA and we can make a comparison

4. There are quite a few in stockholm atleast, and as already stated they are located in the middle of the city and are easy accessible.

How long to you plan on staying?
Also, you will be impressed with our ability to speak english. Almost everyone under 70 will speak without much problem so no need to worry about the language barrier!
Really, play for fun!

Haha, Swedens alright. Not that much different from America, the east coast anyways

1. Public transportation in Sweden is very good. There are buses and trains basically everywhere. I would imagine it's pretty much the same as in the USA.

2. Sweden has one of the worlds fastest internet connections. I pay $20/month for 10 mbit broadband and my friend pays $15/month for 100 mbit broadband.

3. You can live in hostels pretty cheap, or maybe rent an apartment somehow.

4. Yeah LAN:s are very popular, internet cafés not so much. Dreamhack is held in Sweden and is the worlds biggest LAN, which says alot. Alot of people play computer games here and it's not looked upon as nerdy really anymore.

Sure, feel free to drop by and say hello if you're in the area.I live in Kalmar, a coastal town between Stockholm and Malmö.
I know that deep inside of you there's a humongous set of testicles just waiting to pop out. Let 'em pop bro. //////////////////// AKA JensOfSweden // Lee Yoon Yeol forever.

I've travelled to sweden/norway/finland many times and I must tell you I was always disapointed with the food. You can't have dinner at a restaurant often and it's quality isn't something spetacular.
Public transports are nice and work well, internet is fast yes, but optical wire 100mbp connection is available in almost all of europe.

It is decent near the large cities, but it's expensive and most people still prefer car since public transportation isn't very reliable.

Depends on where you live, but I suppose it is good compared to most europeian countries. It is often integrated into the rent, so you can have a fast connection for around 100SEK a month.

It's pretty expensive, especially if you smoke and/or drink a lot. The taxes on those things are skyhigh and since alcohol is monopolized by the government (Systembolaget) you have no other alternative. I think grocery and similiar expenses are also a bit more expensive than most europeian countries, but it might have been 'worse' before the economy crash.

Yes, but loud kids plaguu the internetcafes throughout the cities, most have decent standards though and it's fairly popular, at least for teenagers. I wouldn't mind meeting up if you came to Stockholm but my english isn't the best and I'm pretty asocial.
I'm taking whatever coverage I can get, because frankly, I'm busy working on this million dollar deal at my job. Early retirement is a good thing brotha man. - MessengerASL

Public transportation in any of the three "cities" is great, byond that it kind of depends. (Then again everything else is small enough that everything is within walking distance anyway)

Internet is cheap and great, pricing on groceries in general are fairly comparable to the rest of Europe but alcohol is alot more expensive. The Americans I have met in Europe generally complain that the restaurants are expensive and serve too small portions.

Hotels etc are expensive (imo) but no worse than in other places really.

As an american you might find swedes very reserved, try talking to someone on a bus for example and you run the risk of being branded mentally retarded (seriously) Then again some people actually appreciate something different from time to time, _especially_ if it's coming from a foreigner.
As an american you also run the risk of being dragged into either political or religious discussions wherever you go (close to everyone is an atheist) especially if you posess what people here consider "typical american" traits. Which would include speaking slightly louder than everyone else, constantly interupting in conversations, confidence bordering on arrogance etc.
But people in general are very intrested in meeting with people from other countries and they _love_ to practice (or show of) their English.

Legal age of consent is 15.

Buying sex and drugs is illegal, buying alcohol from anywhere but "systembolaget" or at licensed clubs/restaurants is illegal. Cycling without a helmet is illegal.

I'll be in gothenburg until my term starts again in about a month and again for the christmas vac, would be fun to meet up
