Patches are different than the entire server coming up for what is, in part, a stress test. It'd be stupid to do that on a Thursday. And no, not almost every patch has been on a Thursday or Friday. They've been on random days throughout the week.

BOOM, everyone logs on. Patch 1 - 02/25 = Thursday Patch 2 - 02/26 = Friday Patch 3 - 03/04 = Thursday Patch 4 - 03/05 = Friday Patch 5 - 03/12 = Friday Patch 6 - 03/25 = Thursday Patch 7 - 03/30 = Tuesday Patch 8 - 04/07 = Wednesday Patch 9 - 04/22 = Thursday Patch 10 - 04/26 = Monday Patch 11 - 05/06 = Thursday Patch 12 - 05/13 = Thursday Patch 12.1 - 05/17 = Monday Patch 13 - 05/20 = Thursday Patch 14 - 06/01 = Tuesday Patch 15 - 06/03 = Thursday So, 10 out of 15 were on a Thursday or Friday. They're not adverse to doing upgrades later in the week. Besides, its Beta, why WOULDN'T they allow the system to get stress tested?

Ohhhhh, now that you mention it, I remember a dorm-mate of mine having to do some kind of experiment or something at the end of his. I guess he was the only psych major I knew. I had just never heard of a bachelor thesis before. Writing papers is the worst!

Edit: They do it on Thursday/Friday because they know a lot of players don't play during the week, to get as accurate a stress test as possible it makes sense to do it on these days as for many people this is the end of their work week (some people work weekends and take Friday off). So having tests of this nature on such days usually means more players will be playing.

From a development point of view July 1st makes a lot of sense for Blizzard, they can run it for roughly 20 days, and then have a week after that before launch. I still think that'd be the more logical choice.

I'm sure they're eager to start the second phase as soon as they can, once the technical difficulties have been sorted out. I don't think there are any reasons to delay anything, the more beta time they get, the better, I'm sure they feel like that.

Not only that, they aren't testing for one day of stress, they're testing for a release-like situation. It makes the most sense so we can avoid something like what happened with patch 13 (I think that was the patch number). For all intents and purposes, that patch was a complete disaster, being released late in the week (a Thurday/Friday) and people couldn't play at all (getting random DC's/lockups consantly) for the better part of 4 days. They would be much more capable of fixing something like this during the week than over a weekend.

They have never said that, they have just said that phase2 would run for around 2 weeks. Also, a lot of you guys in this thread are taking the numbers too seriously, they NEVER stated that it will run for exactly xx days or anything like that, they've just given out some rough estimates. If anything they should open it up on a really busy day, on a time where people are most likely to break b.net completely, just so they get some more valuable data before the official launch.

Exactly, it's a BETA test so you can't really put an exact timeline on it. If things go fine, sure but if otherwise they will have to keep it live longer in order to fix certain issues that may arise.

Except you don't want that problem to linger - that just eats up valuable test time and turns days that people could have spent playing into wasted time. Sure, you want to see these problems, but you want to do it at a time when people will actually be there to fix these problems.
