Hi guys, casually googling I found this image from a unit named Liberator. As one user pointed, this is a veeeeery old art concept for the banshee:
http://us.media.blizzard.com/sc2/media/artwork/unit_terran_liberator01-large.jpg
This image is datedas added on mid-2010, when the beta was on, quite weird since it is a very old concept art for the Banshee , but it's named differently.
Might the liberator be some old cousin of the Banshee, conidering how recycle-friendly devs are?
Would the Devs be so lazy?
How could Liberators really look?

I would feel bad for terran if it is. The first thing I thought of was the banshee as soon as i saw it. Slightly different but reminds me a lot of it.

Well it's blizzard's website and it's titled "liberator"...
I'd say it was at least artwork they considered, and i'd consider it likely that they based the actual unit off of it.
How close or far from that image the unit will actually be remains to be seen.
I STILL WANT MY INVITE =(

But the artwok is posterior to banshee design :/ Banshees were already in very ealy in developement stages.

What do you mean it's dated 2010?
It's signed 2005.
I assume this means it was drawn in 2005.

Date added on Battle.net.

That's an early concept art for the banshee. It's been on the Banshee page for starcraft wiki since before Wings launched. http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/AH/G-24_Banshee
Though Blizzard has been known to reuse design ideas (Disruptor, Widow Mine, Oracle, Adept) So it's possible that they used an older design version of the banshee model for the Liberator.

Yeah, that's true that they recycle concepts a ton.

Oh, right.
I should get better at right clicking and "search google for image"ing before posting.
I change my opinion. I'd be shocked if the liberator enters the game looking so similar to the banshee.

Current Carrier was called Tempest during WOL Alpha, so these old concepts can be different from current design direction

Nothing wrong with re-using all art. That shit costs MONEY. Have you ever paid an artist for commissioned work? Their estimates are generally based on materials + (hours * what they believe their wage should be).. Now imagine you have a company and pay a guy to do that all day. That one piece of concept art, did it take him a days wage to complete? Several? How about the 3d modeller, how long did it take them?
Now I don't care much for the actual unit proposal but I'm all for saving manhours and recycling stuff. It happens with code all the time, you just don't see it. They need their time on lotv to be efficient and to get as much done as possible in the time that they have as Blizzard is notorious for having to shelve ideas due to time constraints (anyone who played the vanilla WoW beta can attest to this as well as anyone in the sc2 community since the start).
