This game is currently in development for PS3 and XBOX360 by Capcom and scheduled for release on the 22nd of May 2012.
Directed by designers of Devil May Cry 4 and Resident evil 4. I recently played a demo version at Gamescom 2011 and I liked it more than I thought.
I could best describe it as action RPG with a gameplay mix of Monster Hunter (gameplay), Demon's Souls (gameplay and some of the settings) and Shadow of the Colossus (climbing big enemies).
The graphics look very good for a console game and the prospect of a good action RPG with such tight game-play has me very exited for 2012
There is a new video that explains one aspect of the "spin on multiplayer" hopefully there's more but in the meantime:
basically you can recruit NPCs that are that have been customized and trained by other players as their "main partner". They bring with them knowledge about the places they have been and the enemies that they have fought
The release is getting closer and closer and this new awesome trailer just got released:
it's a real shame that this game doesn't get more attention just because it's a new IP instead a sequel with a recognizable title. I can only hope that this game does well because if it doesn't then capcom will once more be reassured in their opinion that new IPs are just not worth it. We will be condemned with years full of "super street fighter 5: hyper ultimate edition release".
Yeah, it's pretty sad how little new titles are released each year. Capcom knows this, which is why they are including a Resident Evil 6 demo if people buy this game.
I wish they could've shown more of just the gameplay in one of the trailers. In the second video the game looked quite nice, but in the other two the art style just looked sort of bland, especially with all those close facial shots.
This video contains a preview by OXM which shows that the difficulty really is closer to Demon's Soul. I love how important the Day/Night cycle is. Although I have to agree with dartoo that the artstyle does look rather bland but some models have a rather unique take on typical western RPG creatures.
I really know I shouldn't bump this thread almost every time that some new content is revealed but I somehow get really excited about this game. I'll try not to bump untill the may release date.
Wow, I just went from never having heard of this to desperately wanting to play it. What I've wanted since I tried Dark Souls for the first time was a game like oblivion (or rather, a modern morrowind) with the fighting system of Dark Souls. This looks as close as I've ever seen, and that probably means it amazing.
Will definitely need to keep my eyes open for this.
I played the demo last year at PAX and thought it was pretty bad tbh. However, that was a very early build and the game is looking much better now. I'm cautiously optimistic at this point, if the game lives up fully to it's potential it could be GotY.
English voice acting seemed a bit "meh" but otherwise I like the look of the game and love good action/RPG's and this seems to fall in the Action/RPG genre at least, definitely keeping my eye on this. I do have a PS3 but would prefer to see it on PC as well.
Also it does really remind me of Demon's Souls which isn't a bad thing and there hasn't been many noteworthy new RPG titles for a while.
It's really regrettable that some people will think of this as "Japanese Skyrim knockoff" just because the setting looks similar. The game has sooo much more to offer gameplay-wise than Skyrim, whereas Skyrims strength may lie in it's sandbox approach and strong narrative background for the world.
They demo is a blast, the key is to go solo or only take 1 party member. The pawns in the demo are SEVERELY overleveled for the enemies and they just make the combat system look "button mashy"
I preordered and cannot wait for this game to come out.
