I recently started getting lag spikes while in game. A few things that happened since I noticed the lag problems are that I got a new slightly slower internet and I re installed starcraft so I could patch 1.3.6. When I get the lag there isn't a drop in FPS it just stops for a second. I play on low and get around 50 frames AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHZ 4 GB of ram Windows 7 64 bit ATI Radeon HD 5450 I know they're not optimal things but only recently started having a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated since WoW(internet provider) has been no help and I don't know

Are you on wireless? I used to get tons of lag spikes with comcast internet then moved my pc so I could use a wired connection and it fixed the problem.

If you are wired then this is defiinantly a computer issue.
Somethings i would think it could be is:
1) Antivirus/firewall issue, these guys are well known for thorttling, slowing, and crippling internet connections.
2) virus, they basically compile all the usefull information on your site, and every 5min or so(some are more frequent than others) they upload a somewhat large file to which ever server they came from thus telling who ever made them what ever usefull info is on your computer. Normally this wouldnt be so bad except for the fact that gaming online takes ALOT of internet bandwich, so when the virus starts uploading it lowers your bandwhich alot ergo you get lag or even a freeze while playing up until the file is uploded. which takes a few seconds.
3) Cpu/GPu issue. You gpu or cpu could be about to fail, maybe if youve had it for a long time. I would say cpu just cuz you dont get dropps in your fps. If you think this may be the issue just buy a new cpu, test it to see if that was the problem and if it wasnt just refund it to whatever store you got it from.

An update I took the computer to my brothers house last weekend and there was no lag problems
|
hmm, first time ive ever heard of a wired set up giving problems.
It could just be your router set up. try resetting your modem and router, and messing with the router settings. It took me days of testing just to get my router just where i liked it.

I think I'm gonna try unplugging it tonight. My internet provider doesn't give access to router settings thanks for help guys

You could try pingtest.net to check for any abnormalities.

Have you tried defragging your hard drive? Also,Do you have any programs on that dont need to be on?
|
I'm gonna try that tonight along with unplugging router. Not really most of them I used and SC2 worked fine on my brothers internet
|
sometimes you just need to reset your PC too, after a few days of having your PC on it can get really slow in sc2
|
The problem ended up being the router was bad but wasn't affecting normal browsing.

I got big lag spikes too. With no other online games I got lag issues but SC2. I sometimes get huge lag spikes followed by waiting for server message then lag again and the waiting for server message. This goes on for quite a while untill I am out of time and get dropped. I don't get disconnected from bnet and the next game is usually without any trouble.
My computer can't be the issue as I have a i5 2500 and a amd 6980 with 8gb ram.I put my options to medium and I have 200-300 fps. I am however using a wireless connection but I think its ok too. Check the test results below. Any help would be aprreciated.
