The Eternal Emperor, Dreaming About Being a Progamer Even in His 30's.
It seems as though the progaming occupation chose me.
It seems as though the progaming occupation chose me.
STX's Seo Jisoo chose "The Emperor", Air Force's Lim Yo Hwan to be the next person to be interviewed. Lim Yo Hwan is perhaps the most influential progamer and he's doing his best to fulfill his dream of being the first progamer in their 30's.
The 3rd interview of Fomos's 30Q/30A starts now.
-Lim Yo Hwan is this type of person. Introduce yourself.
▲I think I am a person who has great passion for the work he does, and that he's someone who hates losing. Because there are a lot of people who like me and expect much from me, when I lose I think that aspect increases.
-The reason why you chose to become a progamer.
▲It's not that I chose to be a progamer, but progaming chose me. I can't imagine what I would be doing if I hadn't become a progamer. There is no particular reason. I think I am a lucky person.
-Talk about your most memorable incident that has occurred as a progamer.
▲ Although there have been countless incidents, there is one that comes to mind. As a progamer I was invited to the Blue House (equivalent of the American White House). I thought that eSports was gaining a lot of recognition, and I was stuttering as I talked about eSports with the president and the cabinet, requesting their help and favor. It was really nerve-wracking.
-Your hardest moment as a progamer.
▲ It was when I left IS. There was no one around me, and reality was very harsh.
-Personally, your most memorable game and the reason.
▲ The game vs JoYo on Paradoxxx is memorable. My game style is that even though I had lost the game, but I was stubborn and I didn't leave. Many people were annoyed. However by showing people one or two of these type of game style, the amount of trash talk has decreased.
-Personally, if there is a game you regret the most.
▲The game vs Jaedong on Python. Although I successfully bunker rushed, my control was so horrible. But the situation was still pretty good, and with my 2nd strategy for wraiths due to bad control the situation worsened. I then lost to Jaedong's attack. Personally, because I lost that game due to mis-microing I can't forget it.
-If there is someone you're close to within ACE.
▲ It's a strange relationship where everyone can be close, but also not that close with one another! That's the army for you!
- Outside of SKT and ACE, a progamer that you've recently become close with.
▲ During vacation I only meet my friends from before, so I haven't become that close any new people. I want to get to know a lot of other gamers more.
- When you feel there is difficulty, what is your personal method of recovering from it?
▲ For any normal person, when you try your best but you still can't overcome an obstacle, it's because you're thinking about it incorrectly, or it's some bad habit you possess, or something that you may not know about. I want to tell people that you must analyze how to improve yourself. Various changes in your way of thinking is good. Afterward you realize it wasn't anything major. Don't give up!
-The thing I like/hate the most about myself.
▲ I can be crazy over one thing/When I go crazy over something wrong I can't get out of it.
-Your ideal girl.
▲ Someone who gives off good vibes and can understand one another.
- Your most memorable fan or cheer placard.
"우리는 끝까지 공군 ACE팀의 날개가 되어 주고 싶습니다"
(We want to be Air Force ACE's wings until the end)
- The thing you regret having to give up the most in order to become a progamer.
▲ There aren't many people who contact me...
- Your best moment in life.
▲ Even I am playing a game I enjoy and there are fans who cheer me on. I think the best moment in my life is still in progress ^^
- The person who has influenced you the most.
▲ WeMade's FOX's coach Kim Yang Joong (김양중)
- Will you be able to qualify for an individual league after military service.
▲ I think you'll have to get rid of the words "after military service". Even now I still have the chance!
- Who do you think is your greatest rival.
▲ For some reason if I say it myself I think it'll be too obvious of an answer. I've used it too much. That the interviewer would ask this question again ^^
I'll just say rather than my greatest rival, the gamer who I am most jealous of. It is WeMade FOX's Lee Yoon Yeol. I think he has the best coaches, and he has a career that I want to catch up to, and he has a greater salary. Well, since our record against each other is similar I think it's not that bad of a substitute answer ^^
- A word of advice to progamer hopefuls
▲ The world of a pro is very bleak. Lately the age where you have a chance is becoming lower and lower, so when the important time to decide comes, it would be good to really put your heart into it.
This is a question that Seo JiSoo wanted to ask you: It is not long until you are released from military service. What is the first thing you want to do?
▲ If there is something I want to do first... I want to travel to clear my mind. I resented the fact that I wasn't able to do anything before service.
-Select the next person for 30Q/30A + a question you want to ask them.
▲
I’d pick Ma Jaeyoon aka ’Savior’and would like to ask him if he beats Lee SeongEun aka ’FireBatHero’in an official sanctioned game what kind of ceremony would he do? To let the fans know beforehand what the ceremony will be! Many fans are interested in the matchup so do your best!
-Next season Air Force ACE will change in what ways?
▲ Many new players will be entering the Air Force. As high as the competition is, good players will enter and Air Force will be very strong.
- Any words you want to say to your juniors who will be entering the Air Force
▲ The players who are currently on the ACE team aren't the same people you knew before. This is the military, and you will be treated as such. If you're expecting to have an easy lifestyle, from basic training every single day will feel like hell and it'll seem like time isn't passing. It'll be best to prepare yourselves! @^^@ kekeke
- Any words you want to say to the fans.
▲ Although I am not able to repay your encouragement with good results, our atmosphere is getting better, and next season we'll do our best to soar higher. I am very very thankful to all of those who are doing their best to protect Air Force ACE.
▶ Fans are curious about this!
- Within the ACE team you are the atmosphere-maker. How do you do it?
▲ I don't know why people say this. I just enjoy joking and playing around a little bit... I think you guys just have heard positive things about it. Did the rest of the players not have anything like this and just lived quietly? ㅡㅡa
- After military service are you returning to SKT? If so, what are you looking forward to, and what are you concerned about?
▲ I am returning to SKT. However the team is a different one than before I joined the military. Many of the main players are changed, as well as the coaching staff. But recently I don't think that this change is something that will be a burden to me. When I can return to the front leadership with good results will be the best timing to me. I hope T1 can continue to do well ^^
- Your junior, Choi YeonSung married first. Your thoughts, and your marriage plans.
▲ 얌전한 고양이가 부뚜막 먼저 올라간다더니 딱 그 꼴이다! (<-- translator note: wtf i can't think of a good english equivalent to this). However I am not jealous at all! I haven't thought deeply about marriage. When I have a family I want to have no worries about it.
- How do you think up these crazy strategies? Is it due to a lot of practice?
▲ Strategy is thought up during day and night, when I eat, when I shower, when I sleep, and even when in the bathroom? When I only think about the game is when I can think about them the best. I don't think they occur just when you practice a lot.
- What are your plans after military service? A player, coach, commentator?
▲ As of yet, I haven't thought of doing anything else. I haven't fulfilled my goals yet. I plan on being a progamer even into my 30's. After that, maybe I might move on to something else.
- You are a player that receives a lot of respect from your juniors. Who do you acknowledge as a great junior player? Regardless of results, name one player from each race that you think shows great skill.
▲ I want to pick Terran Lee Young Ho, Zerg Lee Jae Dong, Protoss Do Jae Wook. Their skill is already well-known, and I think there is a lot to learn from them.
Lee Young Ho's upgrade/vessel style, in TvT his SCV scouting are very good. Lee Jae Dong's calmness and concentration, and his knife-like micro. Do Jae Wook's macro and multitasking... unlimited expansions ㅡㅡ
I think that the confidence that all of them possess is very great, and something to strive for.
- Personally, a player that you wish would join the Air Force as a junior. Also, how will you treat your juniors?
▲ There are a lot... all of the progamers who where there with me. Among those, I wish Hong Jin Ho would join. Of course I would treat them well. kekeke

*translators note* wtf 30Q/30A takes way too long to translate. also, lim yo hwan uses some pretty difficult words that i've never seen before. also, i don't like to user gamer IDs... i prefer referring to them by their actual names.
