Gotta love the Japanese. I extracted the new sounds from the Japanese version of StarCraft (for a preview see this thread) and uploaded it here:

Just extract it to your starcraft folder and you're good to go. edit: No worries, it won't overwrite anything. If you ever want to revert back to the old sounds just delete the new Sound folder.
Note: This is only vanilla SC sounds, unfortunately no BroodWar unit sounds as a Japanese ver. was never released. Tagban the guy who uploaded the SC[Japan] image torrent said:
This was a special release that ended up getting blocked from normal channels on Battle.net because Blizzard had people that would think SCJapanese users would actually be reps.
They ended up sending new copies of Normal SC to all the people that bought SC Japan, but still allow the game to be played on Battle.net but chatting is restricted to Open Tech Support and Starcraft Japan USA-1 or the like channel.
just wait till you hear the rest of the new sounds (several not shown in the youtube video in the other thread).. the vessel is my favorite, they did a great job

Just so its clear, I simply extract this into my SC folder, and it wont overwrite anything, will it? And reverting to the original sounds is simply removing the japanese sound files?
edit: I keep getting a 500 internal service error on the download. Can someone who gets reupload this on sendspace or megaupload?

nope, it just creates a new folder called /Sound and has a bunch of wav files that will be used instead of the default sounds when you run SC.
So that means you can do things like delete say the zealot sounds in the new folder and it will use the original ones..or you can do some sound editing yourself, etc.

I find it really hilarious that there was never a Korean Starcraft released.

I always though it was cus the original sounds were so good they decided to just keep it. But Japanese, the cool sounding language that it is, had to be redubbed! Or, perhaps they noticed how the Japanese one was discontinued in Japan and didn't bother making the same mistake.

My thoughts so far:
Dropship: sounds cute Goliath: very badass Sci Vessel: wacky, but not in the over-the-top kinda of way. Ghost: sounds like a cool killer
Zealot: love the echo-like voice Dragoon: like an old sage Archon: voicebox scrambler Carrier: bit disappointed with this one; has a deep, slowed down voice
Kerrigan: dream-like quality to it. its haunting
ill definitely be playing Terran more now

at least they didn't dub the zerg

can we still bnet with this?

Ah, if I knew someone was going to do this I wouldn't have bothered to do it myself. ;D
