We have a FAQ here. FAQ means Frequently Asked Questions. Odds are your Question is Frequently Asked.
Visit us aligulac.com

Hello everyone, another 2 exciting weeks of Starcraft has passed by with lots of great matches, and of course lots of points being won and lost.

Now before we get into this, remember that a difference of around 250 or less means that there is no statistically significant difference between two players, but who am I kidding, you just want to rage and yell at our stats, so here we go.

The list:
  1. kr INnoVation 2012 (+45: Proleague, WCS KR, IEM Shanghai Qualifiers)
  2. kr Life 1950 (+21: WCS KR, GSTL, RSL)
  3. kr Polt 1937 (+43: WCS AM, SEANA, ZOTAC)
  4. kr HyuN 1933 (+63: ATC, IEM Shanghai Qualifiers, RSL, Dreamhack )
  5. kr Mvp 1880 (-46: IEM Shanghai Qualifiers)
  6. kr Flash 1836 (+9: Proleague, WCS KR)
  7. es LucifroN 1835 (+1: RSL, ATC, Dreamhack, SC2L, EPS Spain )
  8. kr San 1830 (-4:GSTL, WCS EU Qualifiers, IEM Shanghai Qualifiers, ZOTAC)
  9. kr sOs 1822 (-2: WCS KR)
  10. kr viOLet 1820 (-34: GSTL, IEM Shanghai Qualifiers, WCS AM )

Honorable mentions: Taeja, Leenock, Soulkey, YongHwa, Bomber, First.

While some might still disagree with what our beloved Tasteless uttered when he called INnoVation the greatest RTS-player of all time, we at aligulac cannot deny that his current rating is the highest peak ever held by anyone in Starcraft 2. He currently also boasts the second highest vZ rating ever attained (highest being Taeja in the late summer of Taeja 2012) and the 4th highest vP ever attained (1st through 3rd being Stephano, MarineKing and Polt). There is no doubt that INnoVation is a record breaker, and it will be fun to see if he will continue his streak of supreme domination in the weeks to come. All records here.
Second place on this periods ranking is still held by Life, and while I can almost feel Waxangel breathing "Time based decay" behind me in the voice of Senator Palpatine, Life has actually played and won some games these last 2 weeks. The rest is a good mix of travelling Koreans stealing foreigner money and points, a couple of Kespa pros and LucifroN. Poor Soulkey misses out on our top 10 again mainly due to losing 3-0 to INnoVation.

The foreigner list:
  1. es LucifroN 1835 (+1: RSL, ATC, Dreamhack, SC2L, EPS Spain )
  2. tw Sen 1731 (+0: No change)
  3. ru Happy 1709 (+20: WCS EU, ZOTAC )
  4. es VortiX 1702 (+41: RSL, EPS Spain, WCS EU, Dreamhack, ZOTAC )
  5. se NaNiwa 1701 (+0: No change)
  6. no Snute 1665 (-28 ATC, WCS AM, SC2L)
  7. ca Scarlett 1638 (+6: ATC, SC2L, WCS AM, GSTL, RSL)
  8. cn Jim 1629 (+7: WCS AM, RSL)
  9. de TLO 1616 (+19: Kaspersky, ATC, Showmatch, SC2L)
  10. pl Nerchio 1584 (+34: go4sc2, ATC, SC2L)

Honorable mentions: Welmu, Kas, Stephano, Bunny, Hasuobs, MaNa

This period we see Stephano and Bunny falling out of the top 10, while Nerchio enters and TLO reenters. VortiX takes a few steps up and everything else is fine and dandy. Speaking about records, LucifroN's current peak rating is the 2nd highest ever achieved by a foreigner, Stephano still holds the highest foreigner record.
Graphics here.

Besides all the great matches being played, I want to share some of the stuff that have been going on with aligulac for the last 2 weeks. One of my favorite new things is the "hover over tooltip", meaning that in the ranking page, you can hover over a red/green arrow and see how many places a player has moved since last ranking, or how many points have been gained, both in general, vP, vT and vZ. We also recently introduced a new report which shows the performance difference, which is
the approximate difference between actual performance as evidenced by results and predicted performance by rating.
While I am no expert on the subject, it is explained in the above mentioned link, and I am sure TheBB is willing to explain it in case anyone has any more questions. We also recently added a bit extra info to our Best-of-N predictions to help especially casters get a quick overview faster, it looks like this, and I do believe it is the intention that these MU numbers and the head to head scores will be split into WoL and HotS once we get around to adding this as well.

We have also recently been getting a great deal of positive attention, WCS EU has switched to showing our match-up statistics instead of TLPD's. Khaldor has been dropping a lot of statistics in his WCS KR casts that I know he gets from us. DarKFoRcE is using our match-up statistics daily in his shared predictions for various tournaments. We encourage you guys to keep doing this and please speak up with what you wish could be added to the site in the future, we try to incorporate as much good functionality as we possibly can without killing our server.
Current functions/ideas that are awaiting coding and which we hope to add in the future includes but isn't limited to:
  • API functionality.
  • Better ace match functionality while doing proleague style predictions.
  • Top XX racedistribution (e.g. current top 100 racedistribution)
  • Postable brackets for predictions.
  • More charts on player pages.
  • Current and best winstreak info.
  • More MU-stats in general.

To top it all off, more and more pro players are reporting results (mainly those they win themselves :D) and helping us correct errors (thanks to ROOTpuCK especially these last 2 weeks). Please keep doing this, we are only human, and some bracket systems/site do unfortunately sometimes show a 2-0 instead of a walkover, which can fool our match submitters some time. We are only human after all (except for Shellshock).

Shoutout this week to Prillan who has coded what TheBB refers to as the "The paste-a-liquipedia-bracket" code, done some caching, and a bracket postable feature. All of which is awaiting final approval/implementation by TheBB. Shoutout as well to our hardworking team of match submitters, our hard working programming team, Delphi who recently joined to do some of the German scene matches and finally to the guys who manage the @Starcraft twitter account for this gem:

If anyone is sitting out there and wants in on the aligulac fun, either as a programmer, a match submitter or just wants to help in general feel free as always to use any of the communication methods below.

Otherwise, Pretty awesome stuff. You guys have a great thing going.

Actually I only spotted that they were using us during the cast, I was later informed by the others that they had used TLPD beforehand. But yes I am very subtle in general

Another fortnight, another amazing update from the Aligulac folks. Keep up the great work! Really enjoying all the features you folks are adding for the community.
Even during difficult times, when I sat down to play the game, there were times where it felt like god has descended down and played [for me].

It is due to the fact that he hasn't played that much, and if you doesn't play much nor lose much, you do not lose that many points. Combine this with the fact that Glicko rating doesn't have decay built into it (at least directly) and you can have him linger pretty high even though he might not "deserve" it.

I believe Otolia is trying to test various degrees of decay to see what that will do the rating/prediction power of the rating.

Looks good, thanks! I've always found it odd that all tournaments are taken into account for these rankings when certain players only play in certain tournaments. I can understand that there isn't much that can be done on that front though although I am still really curious what the rankings would be in that case

Even though Mvp dropped by a lot of points, it's important to remember that he didn't really play anything.

He bombed out of an online qualifier... and that's fairly usual for Mvp at this point. He always brings the best quality of play to live, online tournaments.

So... two online series cost him a whopping 46 points. Well, with WCS EU Ro16 coming up, Mvp should regain some of those points soon enough.

Keep up the good work guys. I follow baseball and you can't have baseball without stats and metrics. I like how sc2 is becoming more stats based compared to the other games.
Don't mind me

To be fair, with the amount of vZ points he has, he should have beaten both DRG and Symbol, instead he lost 0-4. Which is why he lost the points. Also he hasn't played much in 8 weeks, which raises the uncertainty, and thus makes points transfers larger.
