The Trailer:

The Format:

Icy Cup is a Two Day, 8 player invitational live tournament. Inspired by the style of Home Story cup, players and community members will gather at the luxurious eSports Canada studios for a double elimination tournament.

The Plan:

In order to fund this effort, eSports Canada has created an indiegogo.com fundraiser (which is like a KickStarter that allows friendly Canadians to use it)
Our original goal was $650, but we've thankfully exceeded that due to an outpouring of support.
Further donations will go towards increased prize pool, improvements in production, feeding players better, and possibly buying CombatEx a shirt with sleeves for once.

The Indiegogo campaign can be found at:
Icy Cup 2013

Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and will help us grow this and other events in the future as well as directly support the participating players.
eSports Canada is a non-profit organization.

Time and Location:

July 13th & 14th, Just outside the beautiful Toronto, Canada.

Technologically Advanced Countdown:

The Players:

(Wiki)Hendralisk ca
+ Show Spoiler +
Henry "hendralisk" Zheng is a Canadian Zerg player who is currently playing for compLexity Gaming.

Henry is a mainstay in most Canadian tournaments. If he doesn’t win it outright, he is always hovering around the top.

Henry is a fierce competitor and his opponents know it. with practice partners like Scarlet, Major, and Kane, Henry has found many ways to take his game to the next level

(Wiki)Ryze ca
+ Show Spoiler +
Brendon "Ryze" Walker is a Zerg player from Canada, currently playing for compLexity Gaming.

Ryze has been part of compLexity Gaming for a long time. An old Broodwar player, Ryze has a wealth of experience on the battlefield.

One of three Zergs in this tournament, he will have his work cut out for him securing a victory for the swarm.

(Wiki)Ostojiy ca
+ Show Spoiler +
Christopher "Ostojiy" Ostojic is a Canadian Zerg player currently playing for Quantic Gaming.

Chris is a strong Zerg player who wins tournaments on his own as well as with his University of Western Ontario teammates.

Known for his great play as much as his kind personality, hanging out with Chris should be a blast that we are all looking forward to!

(Wiki)TubbyTheFat ca
+ Show Spoiler +
Jay "TubbyTheFat" Martens is a Protoss player from Canada who is currently playing for Infinity Seven.

With a hilarious name and a fun personality, Tubby should make the Icy Cup a great place to hang out.

Jay has been spending time in Texas recently but was able to make it back in time for this event. Has his Lone Star State practice regiment paid off?

Neither tubby, nor fat, Jay is hungry for some competition.

(Wiki)Believe ca
+ Show Spoiler +
John "Believe" LaGousakos is a Protoss player from Canada who is currently playing for Latest and Greatest.

John is extremely motivated to win. Not winning top prize really bothers him and is a testament to his passion and BM.

One of three protoss at this event, Believe would be happy with nothing less than top prize.

(Wiki)CombatEX ca
+ Show Spoiler +
If you look up Wasif “CombatEX” Kahn on Liquipedia you will only find these words: “CombatEX is a player.” with a link to a discussion about CombatEX’s past.

Known for BM he has tried to turn over a new leaf but the eSports community has been hard to change their opinions of him. Still you can't deny his abilities -- what other NA players have taken a game off of PartinG?

(Wiki)MaSa ca
+ Show Spoiler +
Maru "MaSa" Kim is a Canadian Terran player currently playing for ROOT Gaming.

Do you ROOT for ROOT!? With two Terran players in the tournament, MaSa may find many of the Terran faithful falling in love with his play. Besides, MaSa is always a strong player to root for.

Appearing in online and in-person tournaments as often as schooling will allow, MaSa can always be found deep in brackets and should never be taken lightly.

(Wiki)Drunkenboi ca
+ Show Spoiler +
Henry "Drunkenboi" Luu is a Canadian Terran player, currently playing for FXOpen e-Sports

Showing up in major Canadian tournaments on the regular, Drunkenboi has been found silently slicing his way to the top of brackets.

With so many well known Canadian gamers in this tournament, can Drunkenboi cement his position as a top Canadian pro?

The Bracket:

Icy Cup 2013 - Bracket of Politeness

The Stream:

eSports Canada TV

Casters will include ESC Jovian, ESC Songers, Hosted By Jon Quinn, with occassional guest casting by players and probably sarcastic interruptions by [UR]EnderSword

Top 10 Reasons you should watch:

10) Hockey is over
9) Canadian Players are very handsome
8) We will determine once and for all who the best Henry is
7) Not watching is the same as stabbing eSports in the face
6) StarCraft is fun to watch
5) I think we're getting one of them fancy giant cheques
4) You can play a drinking game based on how often we say 'sorry' and 'eh'
3) We'd totally watch your tournament
2) Turtle Doves
1) Canada is the Best SC2 Country in the world! (except for that other country which is objectively a bit better)

For this first Icy Cup we decided to hold it with local Ontario players since we couldn't afford to transport people from far out. We had no idea we would get this much support and crowd funding! We will definitely be making this a tradition. We are working on ways to make it available to other locations in Canada as well as have online qualifiers instead of invite only. We are just so excited to hold this event and hope to give everyone a great show!

I think we have a new Stretch goal of $2000.

We got out of the blocks much faster than we expected, but would still like to make this bigger and better, so if you've got some money to donate towards a bigger prize pool and better tournament, please go for it, any amount big or small helps both make this time better and ensure we can keep trying more ambitious things in the future...like inviting french people.
