Hello,

I have been an avid starcraft player for years (followed the scene since GSL open seasons and master terran player on EU) and I am also a passionnate comic artist : )

To make starcraft and e sport in general more appealing to a wider audiance, this community should work on making it accessible and attractive to other people who would not understand video games by means of other media.

I worked a bit on this 'manga-webcomic' with this goal in mind cus I would love to grow the scene as much as possible !

Do you think Blizzard would actually support / finance this kind of project ? I would love to invest my time into this project ...
if not, what is it lacking ?

thank you all !

here are 5 chapters I did for the fun but I still think I can do much better !

Blizzard probably wont support you directly with money, perhaps some coverage if you catch someones eye. I think in general you have to find your own audience and then figure out how to make money from it. T-shirt sales, donations, ads, sticker sales and such is how its been done in the past by others.

I'd definitely read and support a starcraft comic. The only problem I see is how you're going to make money off of it. Blizzard most likely wont support you directly, and since they own the ip, they probably wont let you sell items and/or get ad money either.. You could always contact them and ask of course. I think you might have something good here.

edit: oh yeah. You might want to look at getting an editor as well. Your english is..basic at best. Not strictly wrong in any way (some typos, but I don't mind those), just awkward to read.

This is great.

I don't think you could get financial support from Blizzard or anything (and there might be some intellectual property concerns if you try to monetize it at all). But if you wanted to do it as a community project, I'm sure tons of people would be interested. Your style is quite good.

I don't want to discourage you. But think of it this way, Blizzard already have many very talented artist and story writers working for them, I doubt you can sell a comic to a business like Blizzard.

You seem like a passionate guy. Unfortunately as others have mentioned you are probably best making a comic for something else unless you want to do it 100% free as a casual hobby.

Regardless of the moral or legal implications, it is a hit or miss. Blizzard are not like Valve, they do go after their fans. There have been various cases of Blizzard going after those who have made game-guides for World Of Warcraft and even add-ons, all because those fans wanted donations for their efforts.

There was also a case of someone calling their Starcraft custom map 'World of Starcraft', and he got hit by lawyers. Lucky Riot games (creators of LoL) offered him a job. Not sure if he picked it up, but as you can see Blizzard have zero interest in fans doing anything other making generic free content and playing their games.

I think its important to note that StarCrafts gets a lot of love and support from Blizzard. Probably not regularly in terms of money but I'm sure they contracted something for that WCS video he did. If you keep at it and it gets popular you can monetize it somehow. Will it be a cash cow? Probably not. but if its fun and you enjoy it and it gives you enough to cover a nice night out once in a while go for it.

also, I do like it and I think its awesome. But you need an english speaker to review your work. I can see some French sneaking in and causing some spelling errors

I'd give it a shot, Blizzard seem to have been a lot more fan friendly since SC2 (especially HotS) promoting eSports. I mean hell Carbot has even managed to get his own in-game avatar.

Whilst I don't think they will support you directly either, unless you get into a position like Carbot where your popularity is too great to ignore, I'd still suggest giving it a darn good go!

Wait talented story writers you cant be serious the story line has been kindergarten level at best - The single player story line was amazingly bad -- so so so so bad it was embarrassing

While it's not bad at all, I really dislike your purple coloring and the size of the font used. It's horrible on my eyes ><

Gaming doesn't really make for a good webcomic unless you were to mix in the actual units and shit or go pure humor. Carbots works and although you are a decent drawer, I think there are more areas you can explore like penny arcade or something >_<

Don't know where you'd be able to take this, but props for the effort you've put in. Really cool even if it doesn't go the places you'd like it to.

Nah I have to disagree.
Imagine a starcraft comic similar to Hikaru no go would be epic
Any of you don't know that manga, it's awesome and about the broad game go

Make it like Akagi or Kaiji and focus on the intense mindgames. Man, I may just go watch Akagi again.

Bro, have you seen Beyblades?

It is literally just about battle-dradles and children screaming "WOOOOHHHHHHHHHUUUHHHHHHHH" for 15 minutes until one dradle stops spinning. If that can be as successful as it is with its mangas, animes, toys, and games; SC2 should have no problem.

You forgot the major appeal of Bayblades in that description. It's all about those monsters in the tolls (forgot the name) so they can "control" them while fighting. Making a computer game in a manga/anime sounds really hard tbh unless you put a major twist on it (.hack franchise/Sword arts online)
