Or more scientifically specific, Cannabis Compound Stops Metastasis In Aggressive Cancers .
A pair of scientists at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco has found that a compound derived from marijuana could stop metastasis in many kinds of aggressive cancer, potentially altering the fatality of the disease forever.
Desprez, a molecular biologist, spent decades studying ID-1, the gene that causes cancer to spread. Meanwhile, fellow researcher Sean McAllister was studying the effects of Cannabidiol, or CBD, a non-toxic, non-psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Finally, the pair collaborated, combining CBD and cells containing high levels of ID-1 in a petri dish.
"What we found was that his Cannabidiol could essentially 'turn off' the ID-1," Desprez told HuffPost. The cells stopped spreading and returned to normal. "We likely would not have found this on our own," he added. "That's why collaboration is so essential to scientific discovery."

Awesome sensationalist title Everything slightly relevant to cancer in the media: "CURE FOR CANCER" lol >_<

Moreover, there are space restrictions in the title that would make "Cannabis Compound Stops Metastasis In Aggressive Cancers" as title impossible. So by all principles of titling an article, this one is pretty accurate.

It's still a pretty awesome title when you can fit "Marijuana" and "Cures Cancer" into the first three words.

Hmm fair enough my bad, I was a bit presumptuous there sorry Even with the spread halted would the cancer not still be problematic? I guess that's what they're saying about how it would affect the fatality

Stopping metastasis is not curing cancer. The cancer is still there, but it is not spreading to other parts of the body.

It's not the first time doctors think they found out a new active substance which then appears to be garbage after further tests.

Too bad its not garbage but instead a very effective treatment for a large variety of very profitable diseases for pharmaceutical companies.

Interesting, and yet another study that suggests real scientific benefits that can come from cannabis derivatives. I'll be interested to see if this receives funding, since people will immediately think of marijuana, but hopefully this leads to real medical breakthroughs in dealing with cancer. As someone who has seen people afflicted with the disease anything that can give hope of battling it is a good thing.

All the potheads using this tired argument forget one thing, smoking hash won't cure cancer. It's a compound that needs to be concentrated as stated by themselves "But you could never get enough Cannabidiol for it to be effective just from smoking." Also trials haven't even started so we don't know if it actually works.
Not saying OP is like that, but smoking hash has never proved to be benificial to your health, in fact it's even the opposite.
Edit : Another quote ;" Furthermore, the team has started synthesizing the compound in the lab instead of using the plant in an effort to make it more potent." So yeah still not an excuse for the "benefits of smoking".

Old news seriously, clinical trials are about to start lol

Nobody is arguing that smoking anything is good for you since its been pretty much proven that smoking ANYTHING is detrimental to one's health. Marijuana can be ingested through food or drink as well as through vaporizers thus completely nullifying anyone who dares state the old and very dead argument that "potsmokers just want everyone to puff MJ".
There's too many benefits through several chronic and life-threatening conditions that plague a decent percentage of the population to ignore this any longer. Anyone with their wits about them will agree completely that its potential for being "good" FAR outweigh its downsides (especially once you remove the "smoking" part of it entirely).

where do i sign up for the test trials?

Except eating, vaporizing or drinking it doesn't give you any benefits either. Face it, people do that because it gets them high, and that's fine I'm actually for legalization. But why try to justify it with bullshit arguments? There's nothing wrong with wanting to get high as long as you don't harm others under the influence.
As with nearly every medecine, compounds are extracted and concentrated to really have any effect on the metabolism, you'll get the medecine through pills or injections. I'm pretty confident that if something like this actually works a pharmaceutical company will have no qualms reaping in money with it. The "oh they don't do it because it's taboo" argument is weak, we already have medecine and substances derived from poppy (used to make heroïn), toxic weeds, the coca plant, MDMA and drugs far more potent than marijuana.
Edit : from user Revoran on Reddit :
"Cannabidiol (CBD) does not have this effect on cancer. The substance they researched is cannabidiolic acid (CBDA). This is important because CBDA is not present in cooked/smoked/vaporized marijuana. When heated, CBDA breaks down into CBD via a process called decarboxylation and so by using marijuana you're not getting any of dat yummy anti-cancer CBDA. Literally EVERY news outlet is misreporting this. Bad reporting is BAD. Sorry for the hijack but this has to be said. Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22963825 TL;DR: This article is wrong."
