Just saw this on twitter - note that Season 5 is the next one:
Dear GOMTV.net users,
I'm Mr. Chae.
For GSL Season 5, GOMTV will once again work together with IPL and hold the Semifinals as well as Grand Finals in Las Vegas, USA. IPL 5 will take place from 2012/11/29 to 2012/12/02.
But there's more! Do you remember the 2011 GSL World Championship that took place in March 2011 in Seoul? The best Korean progamers and World All Stars competed against each other in a GSTL style tournament. The finals went on to the ace match and was won by the Korean team 8:7 in a nailbiter. (Link to free VODs: Match 1, Match 2)
These days, many international players are showing great results in tournaments and have been delivering great matches with Korean players. Will the World All Star Team be able to take revenge for their loss and defeat the Korean team in the 2012 GSL World Championship this time?
The 2012 GSL World Championship will take place in Las Vegas, together with the GSL Season 5 Finals and IPL5.

I'm pretty damn excited about this event. IPL's big Vegas events have been top notch and now having a Code S semis and finals, AND another world championship on top of one? I am definitely not making any other plans for that weekend!

The World Championships as well. Awesome. Good deal. I am more excited about that then the Code S in Vegas.

I really like that World Championship format
|
Not a fan of this at all, I love the mind games and preparation put into the Ro8-Finals and this takes out the most intense rounds.
|
Good, much better than the round of 8 also in IPL. Furthermore, I also like the 16 most popular world player tournament to fill the final 3 spots!

I agree in general, I love the preperation aspect of Code S, but I love the World Championship details released.

That's true, but it's not as if there are so many players left that you can't prepare for them still. It's a sacrifice, but it works out for the greater good? I mean.. who can doubt that we'll see great games still?

It's only the ro4. Semifinals = ro4
Also I'm not a fan of this either but not because of the preparation issue but simply because I think the finals should be something that the players are so focused on that they don't do anything else besides practice for the week prior to it. This increases the level of play. Playing these matches at IPL5 is going to mean these players are jetlagged and also are most likely going to be playing all day in IPL5 the day of and the day before the finals. Then you are also now adding this world championship thing to make it even more exhausting if the same players are in that and top 4.

Well, the WC formats looks great! I really think that the IPL weekend will be really awesome!
And for those who say that GSL=lots of preparation. It's just one season where the semis and the finals is held at a weekend. You'll survive.
Also, Kevin Knocke said in an earlier IPL5 thread that they are in no way forcing players to play in several of the tournaments on the weekend

If someone just wants to concentrate on GSL, by all means they are welcome to! There's nothing forcing them to play, and they are welcome to withdraw from IPL5 before hand if they've already qualified or something along those lines.

Even if they aren't being forced to they are still going to. IPL5 is too big of a tournament to skip out on if you are already at the location and have the opportunity.

loving this cant fucking wait im going ez

Eh, I preferred the best of 15 format. Guess they wanted to give the world a better chance to win, since their bench isn't as deep.

The only match they won't have time to prepare for is the finals. It'll be an interesting experiment because people like to mention one of the biggest reasons GSL finals aren't as exciting as other tournaments is because there's so much time to prepare. So preparation may get you to the finals in GSL Season 5, but I think the finals itself could showcase the more skilled player, not the one who prepared best.
Also, not sure if this was posted or not yet, but IPL released the IPL5 schedule here: http://www.ign.com/ipl/starcraft-2/ipl-5 (scroll down to bottom of page).
They'll have about 20 hours to prepare, 12 hours if they sleep for 8. That's still a decent amount of time to prepare, it's not like they're playing the semis and finals back to back.

I hate that people say this. Being able to prepare is the format that lets the more skilled player win. No preparation time makes it far more random. The player that is better at the game is the one that benefits more from being able to prepare.

All-star matches? Sign me up! Sounds like many degrees of awesome.

Sweet, great move by IPL.
BTW, it's great to have GSL world champion again, things have changed a lot during the past year!

I agree to an extend. But it is only Ro4 to finals. So you only really need to prepare for 3 players which is like Ro32/Ro16. I actually think having it in the US where Koreans will have to travel and adjust to might be a bigger factor compare to having to prepare for 3 opponents.

Is there some prize for the winning players/team? Or is it just for fun/pride?
|
You mean beside the standard GSL Finals prize money?
