I'm not even entirely sure this deserves it's own thread, but I've been really disheartened to see the lack of attention paid to the HOT6ix tag on the first GSL Season of 2012.
It seems to me like GOMTV is putting a lot of weight on getting their new sponsor name spread around (apparently it's an energy drink). I feel like TeamLiquid and the community could to a lot more to support GOM and their new sponsor. Remember what happened for Pepsi during the GSL this summer?
Furthermore, the (almost) daily GSL write-ups so far don't really acknowledge the new sponsor at all (which is a HUGE deal, so many people read the articles). I don't see why this should be any different from the SK Planet sponsored ProLeague.
In short, HOT6ix is taking a big step for a relatively new company by sponsoring the GSL, and I wasn't able to find a Twitter for them, but I did find a Facebook Page (which many fans have already shown support on!). If you haven't already, please go show your appreciation!

I'm no business major, but I can safely say that companies must love getting messages like "I'm buying your product because you sponsor my favorite gaming league!"
Edit: This is a great idea and something that we should all get into the habit of.

I think the issue is that Hot 6ix is not, to my knowledge, freely available outside of Korea.
There isn't really much point in promoting advertising to people who have no potential to be your consumers.

Can you even get hot6 outside of korea?

Lol Good find virgil. At the moment they have 177 likes. Lets get this up to 50K! Get HOT6ix and GSL trending on Facebook!

People actually knew about Pepsi before they sponsored the GSL of course :D
I do agree that it should be mentioned more in the write-ups though.
Now, I present you with the HOT6ix commercial.

In sponcering GSL they must realize the amount of foriegn attention they will recieve. This might be to test the water to see if it is a possibility to exspand their business. A sucessful Marketing campaign is a sponcer that keeps coming back.

I've noticed this, but I didn't want to be the one to bring it up.
Every single BW League (OSL, MSL, and Proleague) is referred to by fans, TL, and even Liquipedia by [SPONSOR] [TOURNAMENT], even years after the tournament is over. It makes sense, too, as sponsors pay to have their name attached to that league.
However, in SC2 everyone seems to actively avoid referencing the title sponsor for GSLs. I feel like I'm the only one who tried to refer to it as the HOT6iX GSL in my thread. I get that GSLs used to happen almost every month month and it was cumbersome to keep track of, but now that we get 2-3 month long GSLs we should change. There will only be 5 main GSLs this year, which is comparable to the number of individual leagues Brood War used to have (6, 3 OSLs and 3 MSLs).
We should NOT refer to this GSL as the 2012 GSL January, 2012 GSL S1, but as the HOT6iX GSL, much like the Korean Air OSL, Arena MSL, or SK Planet Proleague.

Gonna give them a like and a comment on their fb page good idea

I wonder if they're going for very very subtle sexual subliminal advertising with the name... It is quite a weird name overall.
Regardless, those who support eSports get supported.

See, this is the kind of attention they want though, they want you to ask "What IS Hot6ix?" and look it up, etc.

I don't see how we should be expected to give a shit about the sponsors when it's some company nobody has heard of that doesn't sell their product outside of Korea. It's cool that they're supporting ESPORTS and all and I wish I could buy their energy drinks or whatever they sell, but I can't, so why should we bother? It's not like me trumpeting their name is going to increase their sales in the US.

can someone get some boxes of this energy drink...the ad is great and i love energy drinks in general. An Energy drink that sponsors an E-Sport Event...thats really cool.
|
it seems its backed by Lotte. so not such a small company after all. might be a diversified product.

simply because GSL is not as sponsor driven as OSL or MSL which is a good thing, more or less.
