GSL Code S Group E & F:
Players in the Round of 32 Group E:
  • (Z)July
  • (P)HongUn
  • (Z)LosirA
  • (T)GanZi

Players in the Round of 32 Group F:
  • (P)Genius
  • (T)Happy
  • (Z)Leenock
  • (T)Jjakji

First off, this took me 3 hours to do, I never realised how difficult these post match reports are! I don't know if I will continue the Nightly Round Up because of how much work it takes, maybe I will just post it the next day, but I did enjoy doing this so, we will see. Anyways, on to what you came here for

Wow, at the beginning of tonight I actually thought that we were going to see some very quality games from these players. Frankly, these games were a disappointment for the most part. Only a few games were interesting, and only a few games showed what these players can do. I did not feel like I was watching a bunch of Code S StarCraft 2 Pros, it felt as though I was watching a standard ladder match that you might see out of a masters or diamond level player.

Not all the games were a dreadful disappointment, however. In fact, Genius vs. Jjakji was a pretty decent match- up and for the First time in tonight's games I Actually felt that feeling of, What's it called? Oh yes, excitement. As we get further and further Into the season, the excitement is starting to ramp up a bit more, as the truly Fantastic players are being pulled out from the simply good ones.

Group E

Match 1: (P)HongUn vs. (Z)July
Well not a ton to say about this one. The game started with July clearly looking for a macro heavy game by taking 3 expansions right off the bat. He poked at HongUn just to see what units he had and found that he was very sentry heavy. July sat back for a while and built up a very strong army extremely quickly, reaching max supply before HongUn had even reached 130 supply. July moved in with half of his massive army of roaches and gets caught behind the force fields that the sentries have lain. However, he quickly flys over top with his overlords loaded up with banelings and splits HongUn's army right in half, allowing him to move up with his roaches, basically using half of them to block off the opponents army while the rest ran through and destroyed the expansion and the main. Shortly after comes the GG from HongUn.
(Z)July: 1-0
(P)HongUn:0-1

Match 2: (Z)LosirA vs. (T)GanZi
This game was very aggravating and some what depressing to have to watch. GanZi opens with a quick proxy 2 rax in the middle of the map, while LosirA took an early expansion. GanZi moves in on LosirA with a lot of marines and executes a well timed bunker Rush, successfully killing LosirA's expansion. GanZi pulls out of the attack when the lings come in to play however, and his bunkers are destroyed soon after. LosirA is now desperately trying to claw his way Into the game and tries to build a proxy hatchery just outside of GanZi's base, unfortunately GanZi decides to expand and the hatch is found. LosirA is forced to cancel it. LosirA switches Into roaches and puts up his roach warren while at the same time finally retaking his expo. At this point in the game, LosirA is well behind GanZi, but there is still some hope. That hope is crushed, however, when GanZi pushes up with marine/tanks and kills off a few units. LosirA sends in some banelings but some poor control means that he loses all of them and does basically no damage to GanZi's army. A second round of banelings come in and do a little better of a job, but the tanks remain and LosirA simply cannot hold.
(T)GanZi: 1-0
(Z)July: 1-0
(Z)LosirA: 0-1
(P)HongUn: 0-1

Match 3: (Z)July vs. (T)GanZi
Standard early expansion from July who then scouts and sees that GanZi is going with an early barracks tech lab which July knows means that a reaper will be coming his way. Perfect ling placement for July helps him to fend off this pesky reaper as it leaps up a cliff almost Into his own death. GanZi still tries to poke and prod at July, but the attack is defended easily with July losing nothing in the process. Both players sit back and work on macroing up. GanZi has a scary drop planned but July catches it and doesn't allow units to drop by situating banelings under the medivac. At the same time this "almost" drop is going on, July moves in to GanZi's main with his mutalisks but is forced away before he could do any damage. It was a cold war setting, with neither player able to inflict any damage in the engagements. A quick counter attack from GanZi, however, will successfully take out July's 3rd expansion when all of July's army is out of place. July does do a quick counter when GanZi is still at July's 3rd and he manages to get Into his main with banelings and take out all of the SCV's. GanZi's army comes to the rescue, finally, and July is forced to pull back. GanZi then gets out a Thor and pushes forward, taking out July's poorly defended gold expansion. July loses almost his entire army in the engagement, not even managing to take out the Thor. GanZi pushes forward to July's main, avoids the banelings and the Thor easily takes out the mutalisks.
(T)GanZi: 2-0
(Z)July: 1-1
(Z)LosirA: 0-1
(P)HongUn: 0-1

Match 4: (Z)LosirA vs. (P)HongUn
HongUn opens with a forge fast expand. LosirA fast expands and also takes a quick third and puts an extra hatch in his main. HongUn then gets a stargate and starts pumping out some Void rays, quickly attacking LosirA's 3rd. HongUn, however, has some poor unit composition and loses 1 Void ray. HongUn then gets a lot of Phoenix's which are zipping around and being fairly effective at clearing out some overlords and a queen. He switches to mass blink stalkers and is not focusing on air units any more. LosirA sees this and goes for the hydralisks. HongUn takes a 3rd expansion, but shortly after, LosirA attacks which HongUn just barely holds off. LosirA manages to take a 4th expansion at the gold deposit in the midst of the battle. HongUn still is going mass blink stalkers even though the hydralisks are out. LosirA pushes again and HongUn barely holds it off, again. LosirA takes a 5th expansion and pushes out again, managing to destroy HongUn's first expansion and most of his army. HongUn cannot hold any longer and soon after comes the GG.
(T)GanZi: 2-0
(Z)July: 1-1
(Z)LosirA: 1-1
(P)HongUn: 0-2

Match 5: (Z)LosirA vs. (Z)July
July opens with a 10-pool which LosirA quickly scouts. July does an early attack which is unsuccessful. LosirA takes an early expansion and July retreats and starts massing up zerglings and banelings, he is clearly planning an all in. July pushes forward with all of his units and manages to take out LosirA's expo. July pushes up the ramp and uses all of his banelings on 1 queen, atleast he managed to get her. July sticks with the attacks for a little longer before falling back again. Both players then take their expansions and both make roach warrens. LosirA attacks with zerglings and manages to get inside Julys main and kill a ton of drones, July had very poor unit control. July then pushes back with his roaches which LosirA easily holds with his own. July loses all of his roaches and knows it's over.
(T)GanZi: 2-0 (Stays in Code S and advances on to Round of 16)
(Z)LosirA: 2-1 (Stays in Code S and advances on to Round of 16)
(Z)July: 1-2 (Stays in Code S but does not advance)
(P)HongUn: 0-2 (Goes to Up & Down matches)

Group F

Match 1: (P)Genius vs. (T)Happy
Happy opens with a 1-1-1 and does a quick harass with his banshee managing to kill off 4 probes in the process. Genius builds a few gateways and a robo and starts building immortals. Genius' army becomes very zealot heavy as well, which is a problem due to the face that his opponent has banshees out. Happy does an all in 1-1-1 and pulls his SCV's, he takes out Genius' expansion but then pulls back for reinforcements. When Happy is pulled back Genius manages to build up a decent sized army, however, when Happy pushes up again, Genius' army does not stand a chanee and Happy crushes it. GG from Genius.
(T)Happy: 1-0
(P)Genius: 0-1

Match 2: (Z)Leenock vs (T)Jjakji
Leenock starts with a standard early expansion while Jjakji does an early hellion attack which is unsuccessful. Leenock builds a roach warren and starts building up a lot of roaches. He pushes out with his roaches and easily kills of the hellions that Jjakji has. Jjakji knows those are his only units and he cant do anything. Very fast GG from Jjakji.
(T)Happy: 1-0
(Z)Leenock: 1-0
(P)Genius: 0-1
(T)Jjakji: 0-1

Match 3: (Z)Leenock vs. (T)Happy
Leenock kicks it off with an early expansion and Happy gets blue flamed hellions. Both continue macroing up for while until Happy finally goes for a drop in Leenock's main, unfortunately, however, it was very unsuccessful and dealt almost no damage. While the drop was going on, Leenock managed to catch Happy's hellions off guard and takes all of them out. Happy attacks with his whole army and takes out one of Leenock's expansions, he then falls back to the middle of the map and... sits there. Leenock attacks the wide open army with lings and mutalisks managing to destroy that whole army. Happy then moves out for a counter with his other army, but Leenock has some baneling mines set up and he manages to kill off a ton of Happy's marines. Leenock then goes for Happy's main and manages to destroy a lot of buildings, but Happy does not pull his army back and continues to attack, Leenock is forced to come back and attack Happy's army, in the process, Leenock loses almost his entire army and Happy then continues the pressure. Leenock cannot afford to go on.
(T)Happy: 2-0
(Z)Leenock: 1-1
(P)Genius: 0-1
(T)Jjakji: 0-1

Match 4:(P)Genius vs (T)Jjakji
Genius starts off with 3 gate robo FE while his opponent also takes a fast expansion. Jjakji then gets a Ghost Academy, Which is sure to make this game rather interesting. Both players macro up, Genius getting High Templar and Archons and Jjakji continuing to focus on ghosts. Genius eventually pushes out and attacks Jjakji's army head on, but Jjakji has a lot of EMP's Which allow him to quickly kill of all of the HT's and Archons and the rest of the army is forced back. Jjakji then pushes his own army out, killing Genius' army in the process and destroying his main. Very interesting game and a GG from Genius.
(T)Happy: 2-0
(Z)Leenock: 1-1
(T)Jjakji: 1-1
(P)Genius: 0-2

Match 5: (Z)Leenock vs. (T)Jjakji
Both of the players take an early expansion but Leenock takes a third. Leenock then builds up his macro and has a ton of units, he pushes out and attacks Jjakji with his roaches. Leenocks roaches are flanked by marines, but the marines are then flanked by zerglings, every marine is taken out in this engagement. Leenock then slips into Jjakji's main and kills off all of the SCV's. Jjakji recovers and takes a third and then proceeds to attack Leenock's third, he does some damage but cannot take it out. Leenock takes a 4th expansion and attacks with his mutalisks, killing a bunch of tanks that were caught out in the open. Leenock attacks again and actually takes out Jjakjis 4th, killing all the SCV's and many marines while doing it. Leenock gets broodlords out just in time to try to defend his 4th expansion. Jjakji attacks the 4th and manages to destroy it but he has to fall back due to the high brood lord count. Leenock then attacks with his broodlords, zerglings and banelings but somehow manages to lose the engagement due to sloppy control. Leenock then gets a ton of ultralisks and attacks Jjakjis army, taking out most of it and then taking out an expansion. Jjakji can no longer hold.
(T)Happy: 2-0 (Stays in Code S and advances on to the Round of 16)
(Z)Leenock: 2-1 (Stays in Code S and advances on to the Round of 16)
(T)Jjakji: 1-2 (Stays in Code S but does not advance)
(P)Genius: 0-2 (Goes to the Up & Down matches)
