Today, July 1st, is Canada Day! Usually I refrain from making threads but something nudged me into action.
Why today?
Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867. Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date, but the British Parliament kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution.
For those who are not familiar with the geography + Show Spoiler +
I think colloquially people will think of celebrating hockey, beer, maple syrup, milk in bags(lol), great forests and lakes. I myself identify Canada with multiculturalism and liberal democracy. Oh and mounties. You can't beat mounties when it comes to a police force. We've made quite a rich history, whether it be of good or bad. But easily Canada has a unique place in the world.
A few discussion questions: 1) What's your favourite event in canadian history? 2) Who's your favourite Canadian? (be it hockey player, activist/politician, etc) 3) How would you describe Canada and being Canadian?
A few events to take note of: Prince William and bride Kate visiting Ottawa for celebrations Great Big Sea, Sam Roberts, among others playing a show at Parliament Hill Canada day in Trafalgar Square(London) http://www.canadadaylondon.com/
(if I made a mistake or missed something please do tell)

Wow, I was planning on making fun of Canada when I opened the thread, but there's too much effort in the OP for me to do that.
Happy Canada Day, Canada!

To celebrate I am playing SC2, eating bacon, and spending 100$ worth of Canadian tire money at Hudsons Canadian Taphouse.
