Sacramento's first competitive Starcraft 2 tournament!
Metropolis Comix is hosting MetroCraft a one v one Starcraft 2 tournament that will be competitive and fun. Formed by Wilhelm Lichnock and Ryan Zanolini, MetroCraft is the first of it's kind in Sacramento. The tournament style will be held in a traditional 32 starting pool or players and will be supplemented by a losers bracket.
We are only able to accommodate 32 players but we will have a wait list. The wait list will come into action if any players who registered don't show up to the tournament around 1:00pm. The wait list is not guaranteed to be emptied but it is still there in case we get filled up.
The tournament will be on October 9th, 2011! Sign-ins start at 1:00 pm and game play will start at 1:45 pm.
Admission to compete is $15 per entry and all competitors will need to bring their own computer/laptop, mouse, monitor and keyboard. Extra monitors will be available if needed (4:3 ratio only).
Official T-shirts will be made available for pre-order soon, as the design will be posted. Shirts will be $10 and will be delivered at the event. No shirts will be sold at MetroCraft.
The prize pool for the event is broken down as follows:
First Place: $100+Gift Cards+an official MetroCraft Champion Shirt Second Place: $60+an official MetroCraft Shirt Third Place: $40+an official MetroCraft Shirt

RukKus.899. I'm going. Sent e-mail

I am letting the entire UC Davis CSL team about this! :D
|
That prize pool seems kinda low for a $15 admission fee o_O
|
I'd go but the prize pool is ridiculously low for the admission...
|
yeah agreed we are raising the prize pool and lowering the entry fee
|
Does the $15 get you access to the snacks and refreshments or is that extra?
|
The food is free for competitors.
|
Updated the prizes and entry fee.

I don't know if most tournaments are like this, but First + Second + Third place prizes not counting gift cards = 75+50+35 = 160 in cash prizes.
Entry fee is 32 * 12 = 384
So Metrocraft takes in $224 before deducting shirt, gift cards and food. Seems a bit steep to me. Is this standard?
|
We're also paying the place that we're going to be holding the event 5 dollars per person. So:
5*32=160.
The prize pool is mainly coming out of admissions as well so in the end after subtracting the 320 from the prizes and the "rent" MetroCraft ends up getting a grand total of 64 dollars.
This is an introduction tournament and I hope everyone understands that. Right now we're just trying to see how it goes and hopes that everyone has fun and wants to come back. We understand that right now the prizes aren't amazing but I hope that people will still be interested in the tournament due to the proximity and just to have fun.

I'd save up $15 in lunch money just to go and play and meet new people, regardless of the prize. It's a great thing you're doing for the Sac SC2 scene and I'm willing to support it no matter the cost, and I'd wish other people feel the same. We gotta put Sacramento on the map. I'd love to see an interactive pro-gaming house here in Sac where people of all skill levels could come visit and maybe even pay for some on location coaching. But then again, that's a silly dream of mine =P
Also, bLzSeethe does not have a TL acct, so this is his placeholder thread response for the event.
I am so looking forward to this!!

Plus most of that profit that we make will go into buying more supplies for the next tournament that we intend to have.
|
We added a wait list so that if we do fill up, there is now a small possibility to get into the tournament if someone who registered doesn't show up.
|
I think this is a great idea for Sacramento. The prizes may not be amazing, but still, getting a competitive tournament here will help a lot.
|
zen.550 will be there most likely.
We meet again rukkus :D
|
I sent an email with my information. I enjoyed Intel's LANFest in March and I know I'll enjoy this event as well. Looking forward to it!
