Sacramento's first competitive Starcraft 2 tournament!
Metropolis Comix is hosting MetroCraft a one v one Starcraft 2 tournament that will be competitive and fun. Formed by Wilhelm Lichnock and Ryan Zanolini, MetroCraft is the first of it's kind in Sacramento. The tournament style will be held in a traditional 32 starting pool or players and will be supplemented by a losers bracket.
We are only able to accommodate 32 players but we will have a wait list. The wait list will come into action if any players who registered don't show up to the tournament around 1:00pm. The wait list is not guaranteed to be emptied but it is still there in case we get filled up.
The tournament will be on October 9th, 2011! Sign-ins start at 1:00 pm and game play will start at 1:45 pm.
Admission to compete is $15 per entry and all competitors will need to bring their own computer/laptop, mouse, monitor and keyboard. Extra monitors will be available if needed (4:3 ratio only).
Official T-shirts will be made available for pre-order soon, as the design will be posted. Shirts will be $10 and will be delivered at the event. No shirts will be sold at MetroCraft.
The prize pool for the event is broken down as follows:
First Place: $100+Gift Cards+an official MetroCraft Champion Shirt Second Place: $60+an official MetroCraft Shirt Third Place: $40+an official MetroCraft Shirt
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To register and buy your ticket go to www.wepay.com/tickets/metrocraft! This tournament is limited to 32 players and will be first come first serve.
Also check out our Facebook! www.facebook.com/metrocraft for more information and updates!

RukKus.899. I'm going. Sent e-mail
|
I am letting the entire UC Davis CSL team about this! :D
|
That prize pool seems kinda low for a $15 admission fee o_O
|
I'd go but the prize pool is ridiculously low for the admission...
|
yeah agreed we are raising the prize pool and lowering the entry fee
|
Does the $15 get you access to the snacks and refreshments or is that extra?
|
The food is free for competitors.
|
Updated the prizes and entry fee.
|
|
|
I don't know if most tournaments are like this, but First + Second + Third place prizes not counting gift cards = 75+50+35 = 160 in cash prizes.
Entry fee is 32 * 12 = 384
So Metrocraft takes in $224 before deducting shirt, gift cards and food. Seems a bit steep to me. Is this standard?
|
We're also paying the place that we're going to be holding the event 5 dollars per person. So:
5*32=160.
The prize pool is mainly coming out of admissions as well so in the end after subtracting the 320 from the prizes and the "rent" MetroCraft ends up getting a grand total of 64 dollars.
This is an introduction tournament and I hope everyone understands that. Right now we're just trying to see how it goes and hopes that everyone has fun and wants to come back. We understand that right now the prizes aren't amazing but I hope that people will still be interested in the tournament due to the proximity and just to have fun.
|
I'd save up $15 in lunch money just to go and play and meet new people, regardless of the prize. It's a great thing you're doing for the Sac SC2 scene and I'm willing to support it no matter the cost, and I'd wish other people feel the same. We gotta put Sacramento on the map. I'd love to see an interactive pro-gaming house here in Sac where people of all skill levels could come visit and maybe even pay for some on location coaching. But then again, that's a silly dream of mine =P
Also, bLzSeethe does not have a TL acct, so this is his placeholder thread response for the event.
I am so looking forward to this!!
|
Plus most of that profit that we make will go into buying more supplies for the next tournament that we intend to have.
|
We added a wait list so that if we do fill up, there is now a small possibility to get into the tournament if someone who registered doesn't show up.
|
I think this is a great idea for Sacramento. The prizes may not be amazing, but still, getting a competitive tournament here will help a lot.
|
zen.550 will be there most likely.
We meet again rukkus :D
|
I sent an email with my information. I enjoyed Intel's LANFest in March and I know I'll enjoy this event as well. Looking forward to it!

Hey Does anyone one know if there is a age limit i want to bring some of my younger siblings to check out the event, but im unsure of the age limit, if you could reply that would be awesome! thanks! and i cant wait for the event.
|
Can you make an event page for the day of the tourney? I r Excitedz
|
Awesome. Man I wish I could go but I'll be gone for the weekend. Pople shouldn't be complaining about the prize pool. It takes a lot to run a LAN especially when you're including an area large enough for so many people, monitors for every player, and food and drinks to feed people. Besides, its so much fun to play at a LAN it makes up for the money itself.

There is no age limit so feel free to bring who ever you would like. The venue is a comic book store so there's also a lot of things for them to look at. -Metrocraft.

Do you mean in the tournament tracker? If so then we do have one up that will link you to this thread and to the Facebook page. We also have a Facebook event that no one seems to want to attend, but that's fine.

Well here's the facebook page: MetroCraft Facebook
There is an event set up but I'd like to have people like the page as well.

It's byoc because this is a "grassroots" event and just getting the monitors has been difficult. Hopefully in the future, and I mean distant future, we'll be able to supply computers but at this time we are unable to. However yes spectating is free and we hope a lot of people will show up and support our event. -MetroCraft.

Maybe I missed it but what is the tournament format. I looked through the thread and facebook and didnt notice it. It looks like a double elim tourny, but what is the map pool, how will maps be chosen, is it Best of 1, 3, 5?
Did i just miss it or is there more information to be coming.
Aslo is the tG guy participating in this tourny or any other higher profile players? Will there be a players list?

i would really like to see mlg maps

Well the tournament is best of 3 until the semifinals which will be best of 5. The loser's bracket however will be best of 1.
The map pool will be chosen by tG.Ryan and will be MLG or as highly balanced.
As for Ryan playing, I'm not sure if I'll let him, but there is a possibility. I don't know if any high profiles will be playing due to the small prize pool. But out hope is that in the future we will have a prize pool that will attract higher ranked players.

I dont mean to be irritating asking about all the rules. However, I noticed that it said that we can use the monitors provided. Are we allowed to bring our own? Or must we use the ones provided. If so what are the specs?

Feel free to bring your own monitor, it'll be somewhat harder because we'd have to be switching in your monitor. The monitors we are using are all roughly 19-22 in. and are all flat screen. -Metrocraft.

What is the map pool for the tournment? Also, if the player decide what map to chose are we allowed to use GSL/MLG maps. There is more of an advantage using those due to no close spawns and cannot wall off.

The Facebook is the primary place to find out information. All or most of the questions asked here were already addressed on the Facebook. -MetroCraft.

When i got to the facebook page listed i dont see anything, when i go there i just see the same information that i see her on the main page. There are no additional links or areas for information, do you have to be a member or have a login? I dont have/do facebook. I only do one thing that wastes my time and thats starcraft, facebook blah..
Ya so i just found out from a co-worker who lives and breathes facebook that you have to be a member to see it. LUCKILY for me he showed me the map pool after logging in.
Not Ideal but i guess if you really want the information there are a few hoops to jump through.

So even without a Facebook you can see the map pool. It's in the notes section. -Metrocraft.

The chairs are basic foldable chairs that are provided by the venue, so I'm not sure how you feel about it. All in all, we are completely okay with people bringing whatever they want, we're just trying to have enough so people don't have to bring in too much. -Metrocraft.

In order to get them on the event we'll need your name and size emailed to MetroCraftSC@gmail.com by tonight. Sorry for the short notice but that's the best we can do right now. If you'd like to still order shirts after tomorrow we can take some orders and we'll ship them out to you after the event, in that case just leave us your home address as well.

Okay people! We need THREE MORE PEOPLE! But there is a high chance that some people won't make it to the tournament as well, so even if you're placed on the wait list, I advise you to go as I've spoken with people who say that they may not show up. So please, spread the word so we can have a full tournament and all have fun!

My wife is not to excited that I'm ditching her to go play in a LAN, which she is pretty confident that I will not even come close to winning (neither am I for that matter hahah!)

HEY GUYS:
We're planning on doing another MetroCraft. Could I get some feedback on the first and maybe the possible second?

I would look into the LAN situation with blizzard, if im not mistaken you can put in a reques ticket in with blizzard for specified times and possibly IP info that will help it run more smoothly.

I think its called "MetroCraft" because the location is at "MetroComics" in sacramento. The venue is very difficult to move I imagin. We would love to see you come up to us instead of all 31 of us coming down to you hehe.

Yeah, the place we're in is Metropolis Comix and i'm really good friends with the manager. Moving everyone to SF would be a pain, especially since I live in Sacramento, as do all the organizers. I hope you can still make it, we're trying to make this one good!

You can buy a ticket up until the last day, September 17th, but we won't be able to issue a refund if you aren't able to show up. You'll have to hope also that the tournament isn't full, but as we've done previously, there is a waitlist.

You can buy a ticket now and you can refund your ticket by September 4th. But anything after the 4th you cannot refund.

Hey everyone we're still looking for people to buy tickets for our event. If we don't get enough people soon we'll have to cancel the tournament and try again another time. I know we all don't want that to happen but we can't promise to have a tournament that we know only a few people will attend.
-Metrocraft
|
So we still only have 7 entrants, at this rate we will not be having another Metrocraft anytime soon. I urge everyone to register soon. Hopefully the posters that we'll start to post around town will attract some more people but if we have to we will have to cancel.
-Metrocraft.

Hey, we changed the date, it's now in October.
|
Hey guys, due to insignificant registered players we are going to have to move the tournament to a later date so that we can guarantee a full tournament. Therefore the date for MetroCraft is now the 9th of October. Please continue to tell all of your friends, as we want this next event to be memorable.
|
|
|
Okay, so we did change the date, why? Because we only had 8 people signed up for our tournament and that is 1/4th the amount of people we need. We moved it to October 9th so that we have a little over a month to have people sign up. So please, sign up now.

Hey guys, we're still registering for this!

Okay guys, the tournament is in roughly one week! We still need people to sign up! hurry up and snag your spot!

I'm sorry to announce that Metrocraft has been cancelled until further notice. Due to lack of interest the Metrocraft employees have decided not to do another until two things occur: 1) All plans, posters, t-shirts, and prizes have been established and are completely ready, and 2) The Metrocraft community of fans shows enough interests so that another Metrocraft will be as successful as the first.
All currently signed up guests will be reimbursed there money for the ticket sales. If possible they will receive their full $15.00, but if the site does not allow for it, they will be only receiving $13.11. This is not our choice but this is something that we will attempt to resolve in order for patrons to receive their full $15.00.
From Metrocraft, we thank everyone for their support up to this point and we hope that when we do decide to organize another Metrocraft in the future, we will be able to have a better turn out.
