What did you guys vote?

Poll: What do you think of the extended series rule?

Unfair advantage for the winner (5991)

75%

Fair to the players (1880)

24%

I don't understand the rule (121)

2%

7992 total votes

Your vote: What do you think of the extended series rule?

(Vote): Fair to the players
(Vote): Unfair advantage for the winner
(Vote): I don't understand the rule

Okay so vote first then let me explain

Okay the results on MLG bothered me
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

The reason why this poll bothered me was that this is designed to be unfair for the winner. But it's not necessarily a bad thing, MLG's system rewards players very much who 2-0 their opponent and losers who can pull a close series as the extended series will be 2-1 to start with.

Now the reason this poll is worded poorly is like I said yes it's unfair for the winner but thats the entire point. These two players have already played so the winner gets some sort of an advantage.

So knowing that..

Poll: Do you think the extended series rule is good?

No (5033)

79%

Yes (1250)

20%

I haven't seen it enough (86)

Your vote: Do you think the extended series rule is good?

(Vote): Yes

It seems pretty clear that it's something that's not popular here at least. What I think it's designed to avoid is a situation where a player is eliminated by a player they have a winning record against. For example, 2-0 the first time, followed by a 1-2 LB series results in 3-2 but elimination. That'd be pretty lame.

If two players are in the loser's bracket no one should get an advantage. It turns this into a triple elimination tournament, not a double elimination. But, MLG needs a lot of rules revision after this tournament so let's hope they seriously consider changing a few things based off all of the Dallas drama.

It is fair, but it shouldn't be used. I don't see how people don't find it fair; it applies to everyone.

It's "fair" but like Huko said, it shouldn't be used....just don't like it :\

Yeah that's exactly why it bothered me it's "fair" in that it applies to everyone but on the other side of the equation it's a big advantage to the winner as it's designed to be. So basically the originally poll was just worded poorly as some will also call that unfair.

Well I don't really see it as fair since it only applies to everyone if they are fortunate enough to play vs the same people twice. Sure there's potential to be "fair" but in reality some people will get to lose more games than others purely because of how brackets are laid out and how the LB individual does.

I just see no need to change the tried and tested double elim format. Double elim already is rather complex and not that appealing. Why try change it? Just to be unique?

It's a double elimination tournament. If two players meet in the Loser's Bracket, they have both faced one elimination. They then, in the current mindsets and on the map that is first in that round, play one more Bo3 to see who gets a second elimination and who goes forward. There should be no advantage at that point, they are playing for a second elimination, not "extending" their previous series.

MLG wants wins in the upper bracket to mean more. Or at least that's the result of the rule.

It already does, PainUser had to play less games than Tyler in the LB. PainUser got an advantage in the tournament already by defeating Tyler in the WB, he shouldn't get a double advantage if he just happens to meet Tyler again in the LB.

But doesn't the fact that those in the WB have to play less a big enough advantage already? I know you're not arguing against/for MLG's system, just had to point this out.

I don't like the rule. Also dislike the map pool not staying current and ofc the map restart that happened to tyler.

But it completely comes down to luck on whether or not you play the same player again in the LB.

I agree.
Play another BO3. If the winner's bracket finalist loses, play a second BO3. The extended series gives the winner an unfair advantage. So what you've beat the person before? If you've done it before, you should have no problem doing it again.

The fact that there is a winners and losers bracket gives enough advantage to the winner already. MLG should seriously think about that and remove this extra advantage from the extended series.

Having to win 2 best of 3s in a row is hard enough without starting with an even more unfair advantage.

EDIT: Actually, an extended in the finals can't help the winners bracket person, but has the possibility to give one game to the loser. So in this case it helps. I still don't agree with it though.

I agree with this point of view. I think it's cool in the Grand Finals but not within the losers bracket itself.

I think it is definitely fair but that doesn't mean it should be used.

What they should do, is allow the winner to decides the first 2 maps in a row even if the other player loses.

Can anyone sum up what happened, or tell me where I could read about it? The main MLG thread is way too cluttered.
